You can't get better fried seafood anywhere in New Orleans. It's worth a visit just to have one of their versions of a New Orleans loaf. They use Texas style thick white bread, so be warned, they do not have the famous New Orleans french bread. They do not use a deep fryer, they fry in a pot. Also, it is worth a visit to check out the interior tiling (make sure to go to the bathroom). However, I give them 4 stars (verging on 3) instead of 5 because the hours truly suck. I assume the family is well off enough to not worry about money as they have very limited hours. Besides closing all summer, they are open only 3 hours for lunch, Tues - Sat, and they only open for dinner 3 days a week, Thurs - Sat. Otherwise, I would eat there much more often. I am not really sure why they refuse to open in the summers and why in such a laid back city that hey force the lunch crowd into a 3 hour time frame. Closing in the summer made sense before we had this machine called a refrigerator. Yeah, the oysters are technically out of season, but they could work around that. Another thing that almost makes me give them 3 stars is that it is 2015 and they still won't take a credit card. They point you to the atm which charges you $3.00. I find their hours and no credit card policy frustrating, and as a result, I am not a regular, which I would like to be. When you stop by and the line is too long and it is 20 min before closing, get back in your car and go to Parasols.

A real good hole in the wall with great food & service. Enjoyed the oysters and gumbo. This is a real good place to go in the Uptown District. You will not be disappointed.

After decades this is the place that makes me glad to live in New Orleans more than any other. The Gerdes are great people, Rocky and Linda are keeping Joe Casamento's place alive as a family business for generations. No hype, no commercials on TV, no gimmicks on the menu, this truly unique restaurant is an absolute pleasure. Crab claws fried in bacon grease, the best oysters in town. Period. Nothing fancy here. Mardi Gras bead wearing tourists please stay in the French Quarter, you'll like it there better. 5 stars is 5 stars too few. Casamento's is ours!

This spot gets the 5 because of it's history and quality of oysters. This is a family run New Orleans institution in the heart of uptown on Magazine Street just before Napoleon Avenue. Often you have to wait in line but it's worth it. The raw oysters are great but don't neglect the loaf sandwiches. These are Texas toast style loaves of bread stuffed with either fried shrimp or fried oysters that are killer. In New Orleans they will ask you if you want them "dressed." Dressed typically means lettuce, tomato, and a bunch of mayonnaise so don't look like a rookie and let them do it up for you. Ignore the staff that can be a bit cold because the food is full of love including crab claws, gumbo and a host of other delicious items. It's a bucket list spot in New Orleans and don't forget to tip the man shucking the oysters!!

Great place for oysters and seafood! But visitors to town should take note: This restaurant closes for summer vacation each June thru mid-September, despite that Google shows that they are OPEN. Always do a reality check to make sure that a place is open when you think it is.

We basically had oysters three ways- half shell, chargrilled and fried. All three were excellent! Also shared a gumbo which was good but not my favorite. SUPER long wait for lunch on a weekend but had an Abita Strawberry while we waited, so it was all good. Inside is very small. Service was fine once we got seated. The wait line goes right past the counter where they guys are shucking the oysters and the waitresses have to keep going back and forth, so a bit awkward there, but we just tried to stay out of their way since they were really working. I can't wait to return in September!

We arrived around 8:30 on a Friday night, and they're only open until 9 p.m. so we knew there would be a long line. The line moved pretty quickly, and you can watch the famed oyster chef shuck the oysters right in front of you, and even buy a few and a beer for your wait in line. They had a few different hockey and baseball games on the TVs so the wait didn't seem too bad. We ordered a half dozen oysters on the half-shell as our appetizer, and then each had our own dinner - one fried oyster sandwich and one fried seafood platter. Both dinners were very good. Being from New England, we have both enjoyed a lot of seafood but this was my friend's first experience with raw oysters and even he liked them! I don't remember what the bill was but I do remember that we didn't spend much. The staff was very friendly. They really do lock the front door and close all the blinds at 9 p.m., but they let their customers sit and enjoy their food as long as they want. The oyster chef leaves shortly after 9 p.m., and it's polite to tip him in additional to your server if you order oysters, so be sure to catch him before he leaves. We will definitely go back.
