Before purchasing a gift certificate for a trail ride or lesson from Haven Horse Ranch there are a few things you need to know: 1. The facility is actually a charity and though the charity is a worthy one – the trail rides and lessons are not the facility's main concern – i.e. not much effort or care is put into the trail ride or lesson experience and further if you are unsatisfied with your experience – tough luck, you will not receive a refund or other consideration. You will be told that this is all for a good cause and your dollars are helping others and this alone should satisfy you. 2. As others have mentioned in other reviews, communication with the ranch is exceedingly difficult (regardless of method – email or phone). As such setting up a trail ride or lesson often takes multiple calls and sometimes several weeks to accomplish. You should note that most gift certificates have a short lifespan (some as little as 90 days), the short life span of the voucher coupled with the difficulty level in communication for redemption often creates a situation where the gift certificate expires without use. In short, if you want to support the good works done at the ranch - make a donation to the cause but look for a positive equine experience for you and your family elsewhere. There are plenty of other equine facilities in St. Johns or Duval Counties that do have stronger experienced based programs that do not consider customer service or satisfaction an afterthought.

Scheduled a Girl Scout trip of 11 girls around the ages of 7-9. Chose this place based on the "years of Scouting experience." Paid for a 2.5 hour experience, which was supposed to be 30 minutes of instructional time and 2 hours of time with the horses. The girls were only there for an hour, and each girl received 4 laps around a small circle totally less than 10 minutes on the horse each. While they were there, the parents and girls feel they were mistreated as the owner yelled at the girls and spoke to them harshly. One girl asked if they would be riding big or little horses and the owner snapped at her and said "we could stand here asking silly questions all day or we could ride." She is 8 and excited- those questions happen. When taking Scouts out, all horse guides need to be 18 years of age or older, and they were not in this case. One girl was estimated to be no older than 13. When I spoke with the owner about the experience looking for a resolution, he provided no help and seems to think they did an excellent job. If you are looking for a ten minute guided experience that you could get at a fair, but wanting to pay much more money at Haven Horse, this is your place.

Bad experience with the 90 minute lesson. Got there 5 minutes late due to an accident that I couldn't get around. We were made to wait outside while everyone else got the orientation and then made to wait even longer to get all of those people off to their trail ride. By the time my daughter finally got on the horse, she only got a 30 minute ride (if that) led by a rude instructor and a half-hearted lesson. When I questioned the reason for being made to wait instead of joining the orientation in progress and for the short lesson, I got no reasonable explanation by the owner, just indifference and blame. I will never go to this place again. I only rated it a 2 because my daughter did actually ride a horse and loved it. Luckily, she was unaware of the bad treatment.

Went to Haven Horse Ranch a few yrs back for an overnight summer camp. Lots of fun and had a much better experience here than where I used to take lessons. I'm hoping that I'll be able to take lessons here as I no longer do English. Family runs it and are super friendly! This is a place to let your kids go for camp, it's the best camp I attended. ^^

Don't buy a groupon...all of these reviews about their "don't give a D___ attitude" sum up my experience. I spent over 3 weeks of phone calls just trying to get my daughter a reservation, but either they promised call backs or never answered a message left during business hours. Obviously they oversold their reservation spots. They are NOT flexible to allow you to come on the weekends even though they have no openings that allow a child to come in. I am not taking my child out of school to meet their schedule. I tried to schedule out for upcoming days off, not available considered a peak time.

We had 7 gift certificates given to our son as Christmas and birthday presents. I called many times within the 90 day window and after to schedule lessons. My calls and messages were not answered or returned. 6 months later when I finally spoke with the owner to schedule lessons, he said he could honor 2 of the 7 certificates if I paid the difference of $30. I hope the money for 7 lessons (around $245) that was forfeited / donated to Haven Horse Ranch goes to kids with disabilities. That being said, we won't be asking for lessons through this business again.

Purchased a 90 minute trail ride on Livingsocial. Started off with a brief orientation and instruction. All good so far. Things slowed down from there. The head guy had each horse brought out one by one and each person mount them one by one. Took 15 - 20 minutes just to get on. Another 10 minutes to trot around the corral. Okay, a bit slow but still fun. Finally we hit the trail, wrapped through some nearby woods for 20 minutes, then 10 minutes around the parking area and back to the corral. Another 15 - 20 minutes to dismount one at a time and there you have your 90 minute trail ride. Thankfully this was pretty cheap and they do a lot of good work with kids or else I'd be more upset that I really wasted my time.

We had bought their deal through one of those deal sites and made reservations well in advance. When we showed up they couldn't find our reservation. The man checked his records and said he saw their email but they never replied. So basically he said they didn't lose my family's reservation, just that they ignored us and didn't make a reservation. He refused to do anything to help us out so we didn't get to do the trail ride at all. If you live in the area I might risk it but I certainly wouldn't depend on them to make it part of my travel plans.
