Sleep better to lose more weight

Surprisingly, poor sleep could be a big reason you aren't losing weight. Research conducted at the University of Chicago has indicated sleep deprivation can lead to greater hunger and appetite. Less sleep can also decrease your dieting willpower and can even make it harder to lose fat.

The key, researches say, is that sleep deprivation affects the level of two important hormones, ghrelin and leptin, that are tied to weight loss. These two hormones alter your sense of being full and how much fat mass you have.

You can read a complete summary of the research along with tips on how to improve the quality of your sleep at http://goo.gl/9R1XFl

Breathe better, move better

Breathing isn’t something we often think about, yet how we breathe can deeply affect how we move and cope with pain. A CNN report offers six exercises you can do to learn how to breathe more effectively from a yoga trainer who works professional athletes in all major sports. Proper breathing allows these athletes to move better and also focus more.

Though you might think you already known how to breathe or that it isn't necessary if you’re not a pro athlete, more effective breathing could mean less stress, less tension, better posture and ultimately less pain.

Most of the suggested breathing exercises are built into yoga moves, but there’s a simple seated exercise you can do which involves holding your hands at the center of your chest, then pulling the muscles below your shoulder blades down and inhaling, pausing and exhaling for five counts each.

4 keys to understanding chronic pain and insomnia
The relationship between sleep and pain is complex. Chronic pain can cause sleep deprivation, and the lack of sleep may heighten the sense of pain, making getting a good night’s sleep almost impossible. Many patients with back pain also experience sleep deprivation issues. A sleeping disorder associated with chronic back pain should always be addressed as part of a multidisciplinary, chronic pain treatment approach. Dr. Bigham addresses 4 keys to understanding chronic pain and insomnia in his article on ktar.com. To learn more, please visit http://goo.gl/G866r1 or follow our blog on novocur.com.

The surprising link between sugar and chronic pain

If you suffer from chronic pain that has been difficult to diagnose or to treat, you might talk with a medical professional about whether or not your diet might be a contributing factor.

Even after degenerative changes have taken place in the joints, the resulting pain can often still be improved by minimizing the inflammation that a high sugar diet can create. It’s possible that controlling your sugar intake could be one step in helping get your pain under control. There are also many other pain solutions available that do not involve oral pain medications. To learn more, please visit http://ktar.com/…/the-surprising-link-between-sugar-and-ch…/ or talk with your Novocur pain specialist.
