Having worked on much smaller code bases in my career with a LOT more hassle moving code around, I'm awed by the efficiency with which Google manages such a huge code base. This is a very readable guide to the practices which make it possible.

Geeked out this Labor Day weekend to solve a little problem I frequently have while presenting. I want to share something with my students, so I use the Bitly Chrome extension to create a short link and copy to the clipboard but then have to paste it somewhere else (an empty slide or doc?--way too many clicks!) to make it big enough for students to see. I've been wanting to create a Chrome extension for like, 7 years now, so I worked up this little gem to show the clipboard in a large (adjustable) font. Enjoy!

As an aside, the Bitly extension works with branded short links, hence the URL you see below, all with a free Bitly account. Great stuff!

Great work by a fellow Colorado photographer.
Partial phases of #Eclipse2017. Three years ago my brother mentioned the eclipse to me and we said then we were going to go and I am so thankful that I did. For the #photography I did a lot of reading, planning and practicing and it panned out. I captured the event from start to finish and overall think the pics came out quite well. Here is a series of eight images together - the top four showing the eclipse beginning and the bottom four showing it ending. Me thinks a trip to Texas in 2024 may be in order! ;-) #astrophotography #eclipse

Every time I've passed Lake Dillon on I-70 in the winter, I've wanted to take this shot. Fortunately this morning we were staying in nearby Frisco so I got up before the sunrise to get the more colorful morning light. Unfortunately, I drove past the scenic overlook the first time and had to turn around in Silverthorne, so I missed the first pink light. I was glad I brought my tall boots as I had to wade out into the snow with the tripod. I took a few shortcuts with the panorama because it was -4F and I was freezing! But Lightroom was remarkably forgiving of my stitching together 6 vertical frames shot in auto exposure instead of manual.

I gave away most of my O'Reilly shelf when I moved to Peru, but I've been missing some of these, especially now that I'm spending a lot more time on the command line in Google Cloud Platform virtual machines. This HumbleBundle O'Reilly deal was a ridiculously cheap way to purchase back all my missing Unix books!
