Remember "The Triple Package" by law professors Amy Chua (the "tiger mother") and Jed Rubenfeld? Josh Hart and I ran two empirical studies to test its hypothesis that success is associated with a special combination of ethnocentrism, insecurity, and self-control. We found no support for the idea. But we did find that intelligence and family background matter—as has long been known.
