Join me and support Team Leo. They have brought dozens of elderly and differently abled dogs home over the years I've known them. This award will go a long way to helping them help more dogs. Thanks for voting!

Join me and vote for Team Leo. They've been rescuing and homing differently abled and elderly dogs, that no one else will help. When I see the pack in their wheels hiking in the mountains of Colorado, I know there is a God for whom all life matters!

TO BE DESTROYED 07/11/16.
A volunteer writes: With a name like Cauliflower I was, of course, expecting to meet a white dog. In fact, she’s jet black, her coat shines with good care, she’s friendly and affectionate and she won my heart in less than a New York minute! Quiet in her kennel, I leash her easily and we head out the door where she potties immediately and off we go. Her leash manners are lovely, her tail wags gently as we walk, and after a short walk we head into the yard. When I take her off leash Callie (my nickname for her) immediately came to sit between my legs as I sat down to take some notes. Her tail wags gently as she explores the pen, she takes treats gently, comes when called, and then we cuddle, Callie gently kissing me. Callie was found walking alone in the street and her finder kept her overnight, telling us she was relaxed and tolerant with his kids at home and slept with him at night. Callie has been a mom many times, and has a mass on one of her mammary glands that needs to be seen by a vet. While our behavior team describes Callie as “extremely human social” (yes she is!), she shows some discomfort around other dogs at this time. She’ll do best with an experienced person who can help her gain some confidence with other dogs should she continue to be uncomfortable outside the care center. I loved my time with her, soft, cuddly, respectful and low key. You’ll love her too.

07/06/16 17:09 Cauliflower is an adult female APBT mix. She was found walking outside by herself. Her finder kept her overnight. Cauliflower’s finder describes her as friendly, affectionate, and playful. She was friendly with strangers. She was relaxed, playful, gentle, and tolerant with the children in the home. She was playful and exuberant with a dog she met outside. Cauliflower was well-behaved in her finder’s home. She pottied outside on walks and didn’t have accidents inside. She ate dog food and slept with her finders. Cauliflower had a soft, relaxed body while I pet her, scanned her (-), collared her, removed her harness, and positioned her for pictures. She lied down and watched out the door, whining only for a few seconds after her finders left.

07/08/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Cauliflower was brought into the care center as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. Her finder describes her as friendly, affectionate, and playful. With the finder, she was friendly with strangers and playful and gentle with children in the home. She was also playful with a dog outside. She appeared to be housetrained. She has been easy to handle since intake. Cauliflower was extremely social toward the assessor during her behavior evaluation, constantly jumping up and licking, most activity directed at getting closer to the assessor. She allowed all handling items without issue, and did not engage with the toy. While the finder reported that Cauliflower was playful with another dog, we have seen some signs of discomfort with other dogs in the care center. She shows some potential barrier reactivity with dogs through cage and gate doors. When brought out for SAFER she lunged toward another dog in a kennel (who was also barking and lunging) – she lunged once, then moved away. She also seems to be uncomfortable when off-leash with other dogs (when the barrier is removed). Please see GroupBehavior notes for additional details. While Cauliflower is extremely human-social and showed no concerns on the SAFER assessment, due to her behavior toward other dogs we recommend an experienced adopter who can safely manage this behavior, should it continue to show outside the care center, and who can help to build positive associations for Cauliflower with other dogs to help her gain comfort and confidence. Look: 1. Dog jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, mouth closed, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed or back. Licks assessor’s hand. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed or back. Toy: 1. Dog engages briefly with the toy, then wanders away. Shows no concern when the toy is picked up and moved.

07/07/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Cauliflower has initially been uncomfortable with interaction, however most recently has begun to solicit play. The behavior department does recommend a pre-adoption interaction and slow introduction between Cauliflower and any resident dogs, to ensure compatability. She arrived as a stray, so in home behavior is unknown. 7/7: Cauliflower hard barks and charges at the gate. Due to this, a muzzle is applied. She enters the pen and ignores the other dog afterward. 7/8 update: Cauliflower is immediately introduced today, so as to avoid any potential reactivity. She is uncomfortable when introduced and actively avoids any interaction. 7/9 update: Cauliflower is more comfortable today, soliciting running play from the greeter dog. She does eventually mount him.
