My usual sentiment when starting out on the next music video project (at least until the curiosity kicks in)

Round up of some of the better daily speed painting practicals from the last three months (based on random text concepts/briefs) - about 40% dont work out so well. Despite giving myself a few more minutes with each piece to ponder out framing and composition I usually have to use Adjustment layers in Photoshop to tweak the overall contrast and brightness aswell as dial down the saturation.

Another shot from the chorus section of the Gallutep music video - not quite matching the shutter speed of the camera to the strobe light I ended with quite alot of horizontal banding. I wasnt sure if the footage would work as is but once the unusable frames were cut out it actually fit the rhythm of the track quite well. The double eye effect at the end of the sequence was another happy accident.

One of four CGI shots I composited in Fusion for the chorus section of the Gallutep music video. Apart from matching the brightness and angle of light the most difficult part was mimicking the water reflections on the wall and couch - which I tried to do by duplicating/enlarging the spiral and then blending that into the background with Grid warp and Gaussian Blur.

This was the setup for one of the trickiest shots we had for the Gallutep video: it would be played back in reverse to simulate the candle lighting as Niamh walked past and required the four of us to hit our marks at exactly the same time (with Simon blowing out the candle). Stafford had the rough end of the stick as usual as he was cooking inside the suit throughout the shoot

A few screen grabs from the music video I've been shooting the last few weeks with Niamh and Stafford. Been tricky getting my head around Fusion, not having used it before, but I'm happy enough with the results of the few effect shots. Only six shots left out of the seventy two I'd story-boarded to get through.

A benefit of my flourishing social anxiety the last few years has been that I've stuck with the nightly figure-drawing-from-the-imagination practicals based on the Andrew Loomis technique of building a figure out from an armature ("think in forms, draw in lines"). Over the last twelve months its been fun to start adding random costumes. In the margins I try to draw from memory some of the diagrams in Paul Richers excellent anatomy book.
