Judicial Watch filed a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit for public release of a Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General report that describes a “hands off” list of individuals who can enter the U.S. despite having been previously barred from entry due to suspected terrorist ties. In one of the emails, an immigration official wrote: “I’m puzzled how someone could be a member of the Muslim Brotherhood and unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation trial…be afforded the luxury of a visitor visa and de-watchlisted.”

An analysis from the Brennan Center for Justice urges President Obama to use his executive authority to require firms that perform federal contract work to make a full public disclosure of their political expenditures, including contributions to SuperPACs. Many SuperPACs accept unlimited corporate contributions to finance independent expenditure activity, and are not subject to the disclosure requirements of federal election laws.

Physicians are more likely to accept a new Medicare patient than a new Medicaid patient, and both Medicare and Medicaid patients have a better chance of seeing a physician in a rural area than a metropolitan area, the National Center for Health Statistics said. An NCHS survey found that 68.9% of physicians accepted new Medicaid patients, compared to 83.7% who accepted new Medicare patients and 84.7% who accepted new privately insured patients

Americans United for Separation of Church and State applied for intervener status in a lawsuit on behalf of four Kentucky taxpayers, including two ordained ministers, who support the denial of tax benefits to a Christian theme park. The Kentucky tourist agency was sued because it wouldn’t award $18 million in tax rebates to help finance construction of a 510-foot replica of Noah’s Ark.

A Federal Trade Commission report that revealed $9.6 billion was spent by tobacco companies in 2012 to promote sales of cigarettes and smokeless tobacco products underscores the need for enacting new sales taxes and increasing the government’s tobacco prevention and cessation programs, the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids said. The Campaign said the FTC’s report shows that the tobacco companies are spending about $26 million a day—or more than $1 million every hour—to advertise their products.
