Open Whisper Systems just released Signal, the iPhone version of their encrypted voice app. It lets you place free, secure phone calls to anyone else using their application. Encrypted text messaging support will be coming in a few months as well.

If anyone is using Android, I'd highly recommend switching your default messaging & SMS application over to TextSecure. All conversations between users of TextSecure are encrypted end to end using their secure protocol. Any messages sent over SMS are still kept in an encrypted database on your phone. An iOS version is in the works and should be available soon.

TextSecure is going to be integrated into CyanogenMod as the default text messaging system. This is really, really awesome news.
