This place is always great. The staff is very professional and most importantly, we come for the room. Between the in-room fireplace, the great ocean view, the airy feeling of the room itself and the top notch bed, this is the only place we stay at. The jacuzzi bathtub is also great. I'm not a snob, I'm a blue collar guy. I pay for the more expensive room because it's worth it every time. I've never been disappointed in the half dozen times I've stayed here within the past year. Yes, my better half and I come out here just for the night from Portland because we know we love the Surfrider. If you don't believe me, good, hopefully you won't have our room booked the next time we come out here!

We spent 3 nights 4 days there.... We are 4 adults, 2 couples. We were lead to believe we would have two bedrooms and it was actually one bedroom with a private bath and one "pass through" bedroom which was awkward. The staff was very responsive to our needs,...... and they were many..... there was 1 suitcase stand for 4 people, each with a suitcase. The blinds were broken in the pass through bedroom, and the curtains did not close all the way. There was no elevator, and I am handicapped, so that was a problem. The stove in the kitchenette was a nightmare, it was hot, the top, door, sides, I have never seen a stove heat up like that, ... we felt we could not use it the rest of the weekend. The refrigerator was barely cold and yet parts of the refrigerator froze the vegetables. The Surfrider Resort is old and outdated and needs a real boost and better furniture in the rooms. On the plus side, the beds were very comfortable and clean, there were plenty of towels, the pool, although a bit worse for wear, was nice and available and the spa was wonderful. The restaurant was great, wonderful dinner, excellent chef, wait staff was there for your every need. The Hotel staff was friendly and did address our concerns with the stove and any needs we had at the time. Beach access was horrible, I could not get to the beach and my husband even had a hard time, we did not visit that beach.

Stayed there in March. Very run down and needs to be cleaned. Our room had peanutbutter cup wrappers on the floor between the bed and the wall. The lock on the glass sliding door was missing and replaced with a metal latch. Carpet could use a good cleaning and the bedding updated. We ordered dinner from the restaurant to take to our room, we put a tip on the bill and were charged a 15% gratuity on top of that, what a ripoff!!! Had to go to the office to get the 10% off the dining bill they promised when we checked in if we showed our room key in the restaurant. Needless to say, we will find a different motel next time we travel to the coast. Very disappointing

My husband and I stayed here before and left feeling that the good outweighed the bad. The interior is in despite need of updating but the staff was friendly and accommodating. Sadly this trip the room was dirty, large stains on the comforter and a shower and couch we didn't even want to sit on. We booked online on the companies website and got checked into a room different then what we had asked for, when we spoke to the front desk we were informed not to utilize the website, that it was our fault, nothing they could do. When we tried to use the toilet it would not flush. The manager joined us for two hours of our anniversary while he tried to unclog to toilet. There is nothing romantic about listening to the man plunge your toilet for two hours. Once it was fixed the manager made no apologies or offered any change in room or service. They are monopolizing a gorgeous beach with a dated hotel and terrible customer service. We will never be back.

First thing WE want to say is, WE LOVED OUR WEEKEND STAY AT THE SURFRIDER! Chuck at the front desk was Awesome! He was the first point of contact there. Honestly I can't say enough good things about him but I will say this he is a ASSET to SURFRIDER! When we left from SE Portland I called just to make sure our reservation was good, Chuck answered said YES and not to rush! He went on to informed us of bad weather forecast as well as road conditions. Chuck was really concerned about our safe arrival and we really appreciated it. I was searching around on Expedia saw and booked the very LAST room Surfrider had available. It was a King room #62 with three huge picture windows we watched the storm through. The HUGE comfortable King bed had soft sheets,a down comforter and another comforter on top with plenty of pillows. The entertainment center held a flat screen tv, dvd player (you can also rent dvds at the front desk) a microwave and fridge. Coffee maker on counter with complimentary coffee and tea. The room had a small table with two chairs plus a love seat which we moved around to Our liking and comfort. Open the windows you can hear the waves crashing down, it was fantastic. Our room was clean nicely prepared for quests to stay in. Looked remodeled and Extremely nice n cozy for the reasonable price we paid and Chuck also gave us a discount for being AAA members which I didn't know about til were checking in, and went on to inform us of EVERYTHING Surfrider had to offer like the swimming pool, laundry room and onsite restaurant and bar which gives guest a discount for dinning there. We went to the bar where we were served EXCELLENT clam chowder at ROGER the bartender's advice. ROGER is another ASSET to Surfrider! Roger is friendly, funny courteous and really down to earth and after a tedious, cramped and tense drive to get there, Roger was the catalyst for an amazing weekend! Hopefully you'll have the pleasure to meet him as well as we did. LONG STORY SHORT: SURFRIDER RESORT IS AN AMAZINGLY,PEACEFUL,WONDERFUL PLACE TO STAY IN DEPOT BAY!

The price is average and the view is fantastic from mostly every room. However if you are going to stay here be sure to get a room on the top floor, the build quality of this place is poor and the noise from creaky joists, footsteps, and even people talking above the bottom floor rooms is really bad. I had a very hard time sleeping. Generally speaking the place is a bit of a dump, spend a few extra dollars at one of the hundreds of other beach-front hotels in the area that are quieter and nicer.

For the first time my wife and I stayed there. The food and service was outstanding. We would recomend to all of our friends to stay. In the future we would like to bring our children and friends. And what a view of some good storms. Love this place, it will have a special place in our hearts.
