I pretty much loved all the NY museums except this one. The art didn't appeal to me. If you want to give it a try pay $1 instead of the suggested $7.

I attended a fashion and visual performance here for Harlem Fashion Week and what a superb show, but I didn't expect anything less. A close friend of mine was one of the models so I was lucky enough to be on the guest list, which was the only way to enter this night. The event was extremely well curated with compelling visual imagery throughout all rooms. The models stood in other rooms and painfully posed steady for hours. It was amazing. I hope to attend a show there again soon.

the modern art is very interesting, mostly photography and installations, plus creative objects that make you really think about the history of harlem

Ever since I was a lil dude I've loved this place. It is THE staple of Harlem, the home of African-American creative visual culture. Sure, art galleries are popping up left and right in Harlem now, but The Studio Museum was here first and it'll be here when these johnny-come-lately places all start to die off. Far from pretentious, it's a place where the history of Harlem hangs out, from Romare Bearden to the artist that you don't even know about who is changing perceptions with their creative strokes, this is THE place. Just like ya boy Pumkin Escobar, it's in Harlem. Come here, getchu some culture. You'll be glad you did.

An excellent experience. It is a very nice facilitate and director and chief curator Thelma Golden knows how to put exhibits together. She came up in my contacts as Golden, Thelma let's just drop the comma from here on out, Golden Thelma puts great things together here!

Fantastic exhibitions featuring the highest caliber of art by artists of African descent. Fantastic curatorial and educational programming. A special place that anyone and everyone should visit, and visit again and again.
