Yes, Cary Brook is a value apartment in what is an upscale Cary NC community with overpriced one bedroom apts to $1100. You get what you pay for - and I think some extra merits with the quiet, security, and adjacency to good shopping and main roads. I saw Misty Woods (the old name) 30 years ago and Cary Brook is a solid, total transformation. The staff have always been attentive, caring, and concerned in my 18 mo. experience. Recently we had snow and ice and my car was locked in ice. Five people including maintenance staff volunteered to shovel and push my car out - the community in general does care and I've met very fine, good people. People do keep to themselves, show respect, and are quiet at least on Lasky Ct. If two people are vying for one parking spot, we often defer to the other to a fault! My only complaints has been 1) no snow plowing, 2) lawn mower guys spraying grass onto my patio, and 3) the amount of dog you-know-what people leave around but that occurs in wealthy communities too. I cannot speak for pests (had none) but get real trip to Food Lion for spray and traps will fix that in 3 days! One day someone (I did not recognize the car) left their Garmin GPS on the windshield with two windows rolled down. I had no idea whom to warn. It was there the next morning at 10am. That would not happen most places in old Raleigh or urban Cary. Cary Brook is what you make of it, secure, quiet, and fun at times and just plain "no worries" most of the time.

VERY difficult time getting the management to make necessary repairs. I lived in the apartment for a year, and had a ceiling that leaked for most of that time. They finally came to repair the ceiling when the plaster fell off, but did a horrible job. A 10 year old could do as well. They never did address the entire problem, involving the a/c from the upstairs apartment. Only one burner on my stove worked. The 'repairman' replaced several parts, but those only worked for a few days. I just gave up trying to get the guy back so I lived with one working burner. I lived with soupy ice cream and frozen lettuce as the refrigerator could never get it right. The repairmen are hired as full time maintenenance staff. I complained about the ceiling, the stove, and a leak in the kitchen countless times before anyone showed up. It is way too expensive for the leaking ceilings, old broken down appliances, overflowing garbage containers (stop by on a Sunday) and the dog poop that is everywhere. I've been waiting two months to get the deposit back but have heard nothing.

I am not sure where to begin. I sent a maintenance reqest on may 20th about my air conditioner not working. Today is July 9th. It is still not fixed. The first maintenance guy came and kept having issues so he kept having to leave and come back. Not in the same day of course it happened for a week until he finally fried all the wires. The following week or later I had another maintenance guy come. He showed up three days in a row and then said he doesn't know what the other guy did and needs to talk to his supervisor. I did recieve a small window unit in my bedroom that doesn't cool the living room let alone the other bedroom. Plus it is not fitted to the window so ants and other bugs walk right in. I was tired of dealing with so stopped calling. Waited a week and nothing. I have been promised time and time again that this is going to happen and then no one shows up. My BIGGEST problem is they never contact me. Never know when they are coming or what is wrong. I NOW HAVE MOLD IN MY APARTMENT FROM A LACK OF AIR CONDITIONING

The honeymoon phase was over within a month of moving in. Cary Brook is a good apartment to get into if you have 1-2 days to look around without worrying about being approved. They'll let just about anybody in. Towards the end of my lease, I had a gang of outdoor drinkers at the end of my unit every day, bringing their friend's ghetto blasters outdoors to educate all of the children on the "gangsta life". The community is pretty horrible. The gym looks pretty from the outside, but as soon as you begin your workout routine you'll notice defective equipment if it's used too long. Neighbors are reclusive or obnoxious, not a lot of in between to work with. Also, there's no noise insulation in the bathrooms. You'll hear your neighbors conversations with no issues if they decided to hold a phone call on the toilet. If your downstairs neighbor smokes inside, it's going to get into your apartment. If you're afraid of bugs, don't even bother looking. Terminex is a joke when it comes to the amount of critters I had residing with me on a daily basis. The most negative experience I had was when a water pipe broke and send water breaching through my walk-in closet. I had paint shreds and toilet water dripping throughout my 6AM. I called the on-call maintenance and it took him 1/2 an hour to arrive. I was increasingly irritable at the fact that he was driving from Durham...and he was on-call. I never received an apology even after venting the issue on the MyMckinley social page. So here's the breakdown. Pro's - You'll get approved within 48 hours with some sort of income Cons - Everything else The conditions of these apartment buildings are more fitting in the $550-699 price range. By the time my lease was up, they were asking $750. It was a no brainer to rock out of there without looking back. This was my 4th McKinley lease and I doubt I'll be working with this property group going forward.

I have lived in Cary Brook for 2 years now and I would not recommend this community! Within 1 year of living here, every single appliance in the place broke down and unfortunately maintenance does not fix the issue on 1 visit. I can't smell my neighbors but I can hear them occasionally depending on the people. Parking is not really an issue. The worst bit about your car are the vultures. There are a few youngsters that run the community at night checking cars for unlocked doors to get your valuables. People do not put their trash in the dumpster, instead they pile their bags around it? Dog owners leave their pet's mess all over the grounds (Cary Brook does supply pet waste stations). In the summer to stay cool you have to have your A/C on a lot which spike's your bill, same case in the winter... space heaters work best. When I moved in they did not even have a filter in the main vent in the living room, let's not even talk about how dirty it was. A year later they decided to pass out filters for the vent, did I mention they were fiberglass filters (these are the lowest grade filter possible, .99c in cost and its never good to breath in fiberglass) The filter was the wrong size, good thing I already had my own. My place literally has 1 window and a sliding glass door in living room, no window in the bathroom. Mold can be an issue if you do not monitor your ventilation! To prevent it you have to open your 1 window and 1 sliding door every other day and run your fan to air the place out... another way your forced to pike your energy bill. I had a horse fly problem, a water bug problem, a mouse problem, and a ant problem.. maintenance is so incompetent I just dealt with it on my own. The latest scam is the water bill that is administered by Cary Brook themselves (the bill/rates don't add up). The staff up front changes often, very high turn over! How can I be comfortable when I meet someone new each visit to the front? You cannot use satelite TV here unless your ready to pay a $250 security deposit. Dang thats where the best TV rates are.. Nothing about this place is good, price is way to high (mainly because a mall and a few restaurant are down the street) and they continue to raise the rate each year with the same place, nothing has changed. Overall I'd give this place a 2 out of 10, only move here if you plan to leave within 6 months! I just had a friend move out of Cary Brook after staying here for 3 years. Over that time they paid 21k in rent so you would think Cary Brook has it in there budget and it would be common knowledge to change the carpet after 3 years of use. Not this place, they actually charged him to change the carpet in the place... WOW!

This is the worst apartment ever. After I signed a lease and was about to move in, they changed the contract conditions and they said if i don't like it i don't have to move in. I had all my stuff on truck and because of the bad treatment i received i had to cancel and had a big fight with them to reimburse me for the deposit and fees i paid and i'm still waiting for them to pay me back. Please stay away from this place.
