As we grow older or move into new spaces (or move in with a new person), we realize it is time to replace at least – if not all – of the artwork we currently have in order to match our current style. At some point, hanging your favorite Star Wars poster is a bit too juvenile and you know it’s time to get something a little more timeless up on the walls.

Here are five tips to consider before replacing your artwork:

1. Buy Art that You Love. Regardless of if it has the potential to increase in value, it should be something you will love having in your home and up on the wall every day. Remember, the art is for you to enjoy.

2. Open up to Different Mediums of art. Sure, a good acrylic print is always nice, but why always pick a painting? Find the type of art that will best suit your space. Paintings will most certainly add a broader swathe of color. But, an interesting sculpture will add depth to the room, and mixed media or pop art can add texture or a mixture of visual elements for your eyes to feast upon.

3. Explore What’s Out There. Get online and out into your community to see the art being exhibited in your area. Great local and original art is displayed everywhere from colleges to coffee shops and tattoo shops to individual galleries. If you can’t find something thats the right size or a piece with colors matching your space from a local source, a quick online search will yield thousands of matches. 4. Choose the Right Size. Measure the dimensions of the wall where your art will go and bring pictures of the room with you. When you are out shopping for art, you will have a better idea of what space you have to work with by using your photos and can imagine how the art will look in your home much easier.

5. Color matters! Choose artwork that contains some of your room’s more attention grabbing colors to give the space a nice “pop”. A piece with similar or complementary colors can work great as well. Take into consideration your wall color, furnishings, and accents such as pillows, throws and curtains to create a palette of colors to choose from as you pick your art.

While creating your piece came naturally, displaying your artwork might seem like a daunting task. It is often difficult for people to find the perfect height and spacing for their artwork on a wall. Fortunately, there are a few simple things you can do to help improve your overall experience with this and to have your artwork shine.

Once you have completed printing your artwork and it’s ready to hang, find the middle line of the piece. The centerline is where your piece is evenly divided between the highest point and the lowest point. You want this line at 58” – 60” from the wall. This keeps the piece at the ideal height to view. In the event the wall is not large enough to accommodate this, you’ll want to evenly place the piece among the dimensions you’re working with, so the center line falls dead center in the space available to it.

The next thing to remember when displaying your artwork, is that it should never be hit by direct sunlight. This is especially the case with photographs, watercolors and items that may fade. If there is a lengthy period of light on an item, make sure you routinely rotate it or place it in UV Plexiglas.

When displaying your artwork, it is also important to understand the wall coloring matters. You should keep colorful prints and paintings on a solid white wall. Black and white drawings and paintings pop better on a colored wall.

As for scale, remember that large pictures will draw focus to an area. Smaller items should be used to transition, between larger pieces. However, it is best to avoid using smaller pictures outside of the main focal points. This may take a little time for you to make adjustments as needed.

While this might seem complicated at first, displaying your artwork will become easier as you gain experience. With that in mind, you need to look at printing your artwork and filling a canvas with it. The best way to do this is through Prints Giclee Shop. Here, you can upload a high quality image and place it on a canvas you can hang in your home or in an art gallery. These professionals always ensure your image is handled carefully and that you end up with the best looking piece possible.

The best way to do this is with a high-resolution PNG lossless image. When this file is uploaded, you can adjust the settings as needed to fill the canvas size of your choice. Your image can then be uploaded to the website and placed on a canvas size of your choice and even framed if desired. This allows you to hang it with ease when it arrives. Of course, you can always choose a rolled version to frame yourself, or a flat mount that you can quickly place on the wall. The choice is up to you.

Once the piece is printed and constructed, it is sent to your home. You can then choose the perfect spot for displaying your artwork and take pride each time you see it. After all, this is a piece of your heart and soul that you’ve placed on your wall. That alone makes it one of the best investments you’ll have in your home and something that will serve as the perfect conversation piece.

When it comes to producing artwork or photographs for the purpose of hanging, there are a few ways to get the job done properly, though the primary method is usually paper or canvas. While many are quick to go to paper, there are several disadvantages. For example when you print on paper, you may have a high quality image that preserves the spirit and details of the original, but it will not fill the entire space. In addition to that, it will be far heavier when you frame it. Canvas is another great choice and there are plenty of different benefits for you to consider. Let’s talk about some of the benefits of using canvas for your next set of prints.
The Benefits of Canvas Occupied Space — We mentioned in the previous paragraph that paper prints do not occupy the entire surface of the print, which is not a problem when it comes to canvas print options. Digital photos printed on canvas fill the entirety of the surface, which is then wrapped over stretcher bars, giving a continuation of the image on all sides. This gives them a sort of three-dimensional feel that you would be hard pressed to find in a basic paper print. Non-Lasting Impressions – One of the problems with canvas in the past has been that the spreader bars would cause impressions on the material, permanently damaging the aesthetic. Custom spreader bars however can reduce impressions caused to fine art on canvas, especially during shipping.

Beyond Borders

Canvas prints do not have borders or mats unless you add them, giving you a much more interesting looking aesthetic for your wall. These are a few of the most obvious advantages, but you should also note that having canvas prints gives you more of a vintage ‘painted’ effect for your artwork. In addition to that, canvas prints can be virtually any size, even more than eighty inches. If you want something easier to handle, you can split your canvas painting into multiple panels to give a unified visual effect.

Finally, while some say that the canvas material draws attention away from the image, it is far more beneficial than you might realize. In addition to being lightweight (you won’t need to find a stud to hang your photo from), you will find that the material is moisture resistant. This means that you can actually hang your prints in high humidity areas, for example, the bathroom, or even in areas that are simply screened in rather than sealed off from the outside world. The benefits of using canvas are virtually endless, and with that being the case, now would be the time to start looking into them and making sure that you are ready to make the jump from basic paper prints all the way to the superior canvas model. Our prints on canvas have an amazing vintage look, and a way of lasting nearly forever. Don’t pass them up just because they sound different!
