SMOKE FREE APARTMENT COMMUNITIES?

The ability to live in a smokefree home is a choice that everyone should have. Unfortunately for those who live in multi-family buildings such as apartments and condominiums, breathing secondhand smoke from neighboring units has become a real health problem. Secondhand smoke exposure is dangerous at any level, and secondhand smoke often times seeps into neighboring units through cracks in the walls, ventilation systems and open windows.

A growing number of multifamily developments are prohibiting smoking in their units. There are plenty of health and safety reasons to do this: Smoking can cause fires. Secondhand smoke can filter through the units of smokers and into the housing of non-smokers.

But the biggest reason its happening? As smoking continues to become less popular, tenants increasingly want to live in buildings that prohibit it. This means that landlords and building owners will have an easier time attracting tenants if they enforce a no-smoking ban in all apartment units.

You can expect anti-smoking policies to become even more popular. The survey found that 85 percent of property managers without a smoke-free policy are interested in developing anti-smoking policies for their apartment properties. Only 15 percent of those surveyed said that they are not interested in enacting smoke-free policies in the near future.

How do YOU feel about this?  Comments are welcome!

IS HOUSING SHORTAGE IN TEXAS GOING TO THE CONTAINERS?

Well...hopefully not.  Did you see the article the other day about the Wharton Grad that is turning "shipping containers" into living spaces out in San Francisco?  Yep...you heard that right.  I know of a friend of a friend that did this very thing in Texas but it wasn't due to a housing shortage!  It was just because he could.

There is still plenty of housing available but don't hesitate too long.  Give me a call if you are ready to start your search for more than a container!  Houses - Buy or Sell and Apartment Locating as always...

Recent report aired by the Baltimore TV News says the number of homeowners has reached its lowest level in 50 years, and experts said the recession is much to blame. Homeownership is down to 63.4 percent, according to the U.S. Census. Proof that millennials are leaning more towards "renting" than buying a home. While the home-owning percentage has declined, the renter's market is as strong as ever.
The rental market in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area is exploding. With companies moving their headquarters to the Dallas area (Toyota, Liberty Mutual, Kubota, State Farm, etc.) as a Realtor and Apartment Locator I am seeing the effect on rental availability and urge my clients to choose wisely...but choose QUICKLY. Gone are the days where you can "think about it" and return to find the same apartment still available.
If you are in the market for an apartment, lease home or home purchase...give me a call or visit my website at: www.thepadhunter.com
