Upon meeting the outstanding young women attending our WiSci (Women in Science) Girls STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Design, and Mathematics) Camp this summer in #Malawi, I was struck by how lucky we are to have our future in such capable hands. Some will become future engineers in Rwanda or Tanzania, others biologists in Liberia or programmers in Uganda and Zambia. Just as importantly, though, these women will leave the program as inspired leaders, of their communities, schools, and later, professions.

Vice President Mike Pence continued his visit to Latin America and arrived in #Chile on Wednesday, August 16. The Vice President met with the President of Chile, Michelle Bachelet, and they discussed our nations' strong commercial ties and diplomatic cooperation. Second Lady Karen Pence then joined the Vice President to meet with embassy staff and their families to thank them for everything they do for the United States. In the evening, Vice President Pence spoke to business leaders about advancing prosperity and economic growth throughout the Western Hemisphere and said that Latin America's progress will mean more jobs and more growth in the United States of America.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson commented on today's incident in #Barcelona, #Spain, during a joint press conference with Secretary of Defense Mattis and their Japanese counterparts, Foreign Minister Taro Kono and Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera. Secretary Tillerson said, "We offer our condolences to the loss of life and the injuries that have occurred to so many innocent people yet again. We stand ready to assist law enforcement and national security authorities in Spain. The U.S. Consulate General in Barcelona and the U.S. Embassy in Madrid are currently assisting Americans in Spain affected by these events. We ask U.S. citizens in the area to let your loved ones know that you are safe. Terrorists around the world should know that the United States and our allies are resolved to find you and bring you to justice."
