USAID is training health and community workers to better identify and manage malnutrition, helping Uganda to more effectively address the high prevalence of malnutrition. In 2017 alone, USAID reached over 1.7 million children in Uganda with nutrition interventions and helped more than 1,000 health professionals receive nutrition-related training.

Special Agent Scott Kim grew up in a small, blue-collar town in the shadow of New York City’s metropolitan skyline. Living among predominantly Irish and Italian American families, his was the only Asian family in the neighborhood. Yet his Korean heritage was always present in his family life, due in large part to his parents’ efforts. And his appreciation of his Korean roots only grew as he entered adulthood. His cultural journey continued into his career with Diplomatic Security as well as in his personal life as both a husband and father.

Ambassador Deborah L. Birx, U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator and U.S. Special Representative for Office of Global Health Diplomacy, will travel to Geneva, Switzerland, May 22-25 as part of the U.S. delegation to the 71st World Health Assembly. Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex M. Azar II will lead the delegation, which will engage with counterparts on a host of priorities, including global health preparedness; support for maternal, child health and life issues; and the endgame for global polio eradication.
