In case you're wondering what we've been up to for the last few weeks: We are experimenting with writing Emblem from scratch as a cross-platform stand-alone application using C/C++ as a foundation and Python for the logic part. The goal is that everyone can change application features without having to install Python on your machine. Everything should be executed within Emblem.

There is still a long way to go but it's fun experimenting with new features. So stay tuned!

We have a new home:

The gitlab version now serves as a beta-like channel. You can still use the gitlab link and enjoy all the newest features before everyone else but it is possible that sometimes things are broken there.

Prefabs just made it into the stable release! Test it and tell us what you think. As always if you encounter any bugs just tell us and we will fix them.

If you have other feedback or feature requests post them and we will check it out and maybe implement it ;)

We just added quick tips which will be displayed when you load Emblem. We will add more tips soon. And of course you can disable them if you don't like them.

We are working hard on the implementation of the prefab system. There are still some things left to implement but there has been a lot of progress over the last few weeks. Here is a screenshot of the current UI and one example of what you can accomplish with nested prefabs ;)

The measure tool changed slightly. You can now draw the line you want to measure with the right mouse button while holding space . The left button is still used to draw guide lines into a guide layer.

Selecting things just got easier! You can now start the boxselection when clicking and dragging into an empty area (without selection).

We just released a new measure tool. You can use it while holding down Space.
Distances are measured between the 2D-Cursor and the mouse position. The units are gridsteps.

Tip: You can place the 2D cursor with the left mouse button if you don't move the mouse until releasing the button.

We are making good progress with the prefabs. The first build is already live. You can try it out if you enable the developer mode.
