The 1.10 release in now out, release notes here: https://github.com/jliljebl/flowblade/blob/master/flowblade-trunk/docs/RELEASE_NOTES.md

Installing instructions here: https://github.com/jliljebl/flowblade/blob/master/flowblade-trunk/docs/INSTALLING.md

I think the release was big step forward, and the Trim View functionality will be greatly appreciated by the users. Hopefully all the bugs are squashed.

With a bit more push it could have been possible to get the release out a bit earlier, but as usual year's end is a time when development slows down and writing even the release notes seems like something one feels can done tomorrow or maybe next week. There probably will not be much activity for the rest of the year, and new developments will start happening in first weeks of January.

Merry Christmas to everyone, and I'll post more info when new stuff starts taking shape.

Hi, I'm the main developer of Flowblade Movie Editor, and I'm just starting to see what can I do to integrate Flowblade with Natron.

First I'm trying to just export a clip into Natron. I started Natron with command:

Natron /home/janne/testinit.py

with contents of testinit.py being:

import NatronEngine

def createInstance(app,group):
readerNode = app.createReader("/home/janne/Videos/motog/Camera/video.mp4")
viewerNode = app.createNode("fr.inria.built-in.Viewer")
viewerNode.connectInput(0, readerNode)

readerNode.setPosition(300.0, 100.0)
viewerNode.setPosition(315.0, 300.0)

This opens Natron and creates nodes, but something is not right, I get this http://imgur.com/a/iBlgZ (click on it if it shows black).

If I delete the Viewer and create a new one it works.

What's the catch, any pointers?

+Ole-André Rodlie Can you please fix that, either in the docs or in the code?

Hi everyone.

Summer break is now over and activity on the Flowblade project starts to pick up again on my part.

I have first looked at the Issues filed during the summer. There was an interesting discussion on Natron integration leading to a broader road map on how to integrate different tools better with the timeline.

Next week I'll look at the pull requests, and after that I'll start putting the last needed stuff in node compositor tool, also some testing and fixing of the new Flowblade features is still required before next release.

Next release should still come at the end September if there are no surprises. So... onwards and upwards.

EDL support is coming for 1.8, but to be clear, EDL is not xml format so no  Final Cut Pro .xml export is coming next release, EDL export is.

I'm starting the annual summer break from the project.

I take a few months off every year from working on Flowblade to reload, refocus and recalibrate, and also to be more with family on their vacation time.

Activity will resume in the first half of August with work on the current Issues list and final touches on the coming Node Compositor Tool.

Please file Issues as usual on Github. I will probably also be quite slow on posting here, so don't worry if you are not getting immediate answers.

As a last demo clip before the break, here's a rock video I edited from  some stock clips for my friend artist Coby Bright: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0feXg8t3Ym0

You can hear more Coby Bright stuff on his Sound Cloud page: https://soundcloud.com/cobybright/tracks

Sunny summer to everyone!

Ubuntu 16.04 now installs OLD version from repository if you double click on the .deb file provided for 1.6 to install it.

The problem seems to be with the new GUI application used to install .deb files. There is probably some misguided idea of security at play here...

It is possible to install using the .deb file provided for 1.6, but you need to do it in terminal.

I  have updated the install instructions in all relevant places.

The 1.6 release is now out! The main attraction here is clearly the G'MIC tool.

The release notes are here: https://github.com/jliljebl/flowblade/blob/master/flowblade-trunk/docs/RELEASE_NOTES.md.

A demo video for G'MIC tool is here: https://vimeo.com/157364651

Thanks again to faridosc for suggesting looking up G'MIC.

Next user visible thing will be the first version of a website for Flowblade(finally), coming up in a few weeks time, I'll post info here when its up.

1.8 will take a bit longer, but could be a major update in functionality if everything goes according to plan.

Please install hotfix release MLT 6.4.1. if you are having trouble starting Flowblade with recent versions of MLT.

6.4.1 fixed the issue with print out ERROR: /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/mlt.x86_64-linux-gnu.so: undefined symbol: ZNK3Mlt7Profile8is_validEv

* MLT 6.4.0 is indeed broken for Python bindings and Flowblade
* I thought that the issue was with mismatching installed versions of MLT, but I was wrong and that was not the case
* adding new methods should not break the bindings but unfortunately there was just one "const" missing from where it was needed. This has now been fixed.
* the breaking commit was done on July 21, so MLT is broken for Flowblade from that point until 6.4.1

Please inform your OS maintainer to upgrade MLT to 6.4.1 to fix this if you are having this issue.

This is the kind of stuff that unfortunately sometimes happens, but MLT made a quick bugfix release and everything should be OK again.

I made the mistake of assuming a bit too much here, this exact type of issue has come up many times on my development system when different versions of MLT have been installed, but this time this was not the cause, and this has certainly caused some unneeded difficulties for users of Flowblade.

It has been a bit over a month since the 1.8 release and there has been quite a bit of development since then.

The most important new feature has been the addition of trim view. This is the first in FLOSS editors I think, and it will be a great addition to the editing experience in Flowblade. Screenshot here: http://imgur.com/a/5nZgT

It was unclear if this could be achieved using current available APIs, but everything seems to work quite nicely.

Trim view will place additional performance demands on system, at least for "Roll" and "Slip" edits, but it can be easily turned off if needed.

Screenshot also displays the new Monitor layout that sacrifices a row of vertical space to get bigger switch buttons and a more natural placement of info texts.

We already have a releasable feature set, so the release will most likely be in the beginning of December rather then later, unless some bigger new feature is still tried.

Alright, release 1.8 is out, release notes here: https://github.com/jliljebl/flowblade/blob/master/flowblade-trunk/docs/RELEASE_NOTES.md

Unfortunately the node compositor thing got canceled, there is a bit of information on the release notes why that happened. One thing I didn't mention was that some other iteration of this tool may still come later. I didn't mention it because I'm not committing to doing that, but if I get something done as a bit of a fun side project, there still is a possibility that we get something published from that code base.

But for now the focus will on other things.

As you can see, I placed the G'MIC filter emulation update quite high on the new features list, we're getting some useful info on this Google+ group that can help taking the project forward.

I just uploaded a new version of an old edit test to Vimeo: https://vimeo.com/164331676

The source clips were quite bad quality, but with some heavy filtering I got a nice "dirty" look. The G'MIC "Lightrays" adds quite a lot here. There is a small explanation on how to achieve this look in the description.

Alright, the shiny new project webpage is out: http://jliljebl.github.io/flowblade/

It's a Github project page so the URL isn't exactly optimal, but I'll keep it there for the time being for easy deployment and updating.

There's a sticky issue available that can used for bug reports and suggestions: https://github.com/jliljebl/flowblade/issues/232

So far most of the dev time has been spend on the coming node compositor tool, and that is looking good for the next release now, all the major issues (except 1 crash) have been solved. Next I'll probably do a few Issues that are currently open and also look at the possible ways to integrate Natron compositor somehow with Flowblade.
Flowblade supports all the media that in general can be accessed in a Linux system when the FFMPEG library is working as the backend. Typical startup message on terminal tells that 146 formats, 78 video codecs and 58 audio codecs are available to be used. Advanced timeline worflow ...
