Wilderlands of Skalara Introduction

A brief history of Skalara

The lands known as Skalara were once the western frontier of a powerful empire.  Several generations past, the frontier settlements of western Skalara were attacked en masse by armies of Beastfolk, led by a charismatic Bearman warrior called Adruna Bloodsnout.   A war raged for several years as the beastfolk armies ravaged the Imperial settlements. Great magics were called upon and the servants of both gods and demons were said to have been involved in the fight.

Adruna had a shaman, called Dirnath av Maudroch, who claimed to have been sired by Maudroch, the dark god of conquest and destruction.  Dirnath called upon magics that sank much of the land around the Imperial city of Zarbek, leaving a portion of the mighty city isolated upon an island in a newly created bay.

Imperial Priests of Oberon, backed by the Imperial Guard; led by General Maximus Wulf, tracked down Bloodsnout and Dirnath's main encampment, located in a pass south of The Wall and bordering the lands of the Klybani, and launched an attack upon the Beastfolk forces.  Dirnath summoned forth an avatar of the god Maudroch to destroy the forces of the humans after seeing General Wulf and Bloudsnout inflict fatal wounds upon one another.

The Priests of Oberon, seeing the dark magics being wielded by Dirnath and her acolytes, beseeched Oberon for assistance, who responded by sending a huge spear of glowing white stone to impale Maudroch's avatar, driving him beneath the ground and creating a massive fissure and explosion.   The armies of both sides were almost completely destroyed, the survivors making their way out of the dead lands around the spear and past the newly created ring of hills and mountains that arose from the force of the blow from above.

With their charismatic leader and many of their number destroyed, the Beastfolk assault quickly lost impetus and the survivors limped back over the newly created mountain range or through the passes to the Caliphate and left the lands of Skalara.  Drakon Keep would be raised at the entrance to the Dead Land; dedicated to keeping watch on the Spear of Ober and the wasteland it created. The fighting order that has grown there is known a the Order of the Spear of Light (or simply, “The Spears.”)

Around the same time the Beast Wars were occurring, a strange mist rose from the depth of the Vast Deeping, impeding water travel between the Empire and the Skalara region.   Many ships entering the mists were never seen or heard from again, a few emerged from the mists with tales of madness gripping the crew and monstrous beings attacking ships.

As time passed and no new emissaries from the Empire arrived, the folk of Skalara realized that they were on their own.  Various individuals and groups declared themselves to be in charge, resulting in a number of minor (and some not so minor) conflicts among the human settlements over several years, with the final result being lots of destruction and a realization that individual City States might be the best answer.    There now exists several large City-States and a number of smaller towns and villages that either manage to remain independent or have allied themselves with one or more of the City-States. Territory disputes sometimes occur, but for the most part, the City-States have mostly been at peace with one another for the past 20 years.

Your characters are natives of the area and are among those rare folk with abilities outside those of ordinary folk. You have it in you to become Adventurers and possibly even Heroes.

Welcome to Skalara, may your adventures be many, your foes worthy and your blades sturdy.

I created a set of Agent Dossiers (well, three versions of the same thing actually :D ).

They can be downloaded freely from the following link:

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/7c3nj9zfmmqgt1x/AADBl_eKzztuRxEIKf_pVAF0a?dl=0

The big interior and exterior files are for people with access to a printer that will do 18x12

The one marked TSNWO CS is the same file showing the folder background but made to be printed on letter sized paper

The one named TSNWO CS Plain is the one I'll be using, it is the same information on a plain white sheet. I've purchased manila folders with the brass rivet style things at the top, and I'll hole punch the sheets to put in the actual folder and then print a photo of the Agent on self adhesive material and stick it to the front.

I tried to make sure that I got all of the information that was on the dossier in the book; I may make alternate versions after I create a few agents. If anyone sees anything missing or incorrect, let me know and I'll update them as soon as I can.

After I read the book a bit more, I'll try to create a couple of additional sheets for Vehicles and additional assets. If you are using manila folders, you might as well have stuff to put in them :D

if I hosed up the link, also let me know and I'll find a different place to upload it if need be

One of our roundtable of Referee's is preparing a Traveller 2nd edition game, so, in order to not have an overlap of game types, I've decided to use FrontierSpace (and CO and BBF) to build a Turn of the Century (19th to 20th), Pulpish Adventure setting (kind of like Leagues of Adventure for Ubiquity). I'm calling it Beyond the Gaslight and this is the campaign logo I came up with.

The background piece is from Adobe Stock Art

Okay. Here's a link to where i will keep NPC/Character and Encounter Cards if anyone wants them. I've made a form fill version of the encounter card, as soon as I get time and/or finish the other side of the character sheet, I'll make a form fill for them as well. Feel free to share them with other FS players and Referees, and use them if you find them useful

Below is the sector map for the sector I'm developing for my home campaign.

(edit: helps if I add the actual link:)

I covered a small christmas box that I got at Dollar General (for 30 cents) with peel and stick paper that I printed on my xerox at work for Encounter Cards

photo's fuzzy, my hands shake a bit

I was a little off center on the side when I got the box lid close to the crack and peel, and the stuff we use sticks forever once it grabs, but it will work so that I know what is in the box.

Got my hardcover copies of FrontierSpace today. Working on a campaign and adventures to run with it. Great Job!
