Gynii was a terrific asset to the state
The resignation of Gynii Gilliam, former cheif economic development officer for the Idaho Department of Commerce, is the latest changing face at the Department. Two other high-ranking officials were recently laid off as part of a restructuring of the Department.

    The Commercial Service of the U.S. Department of Commerce is the lead federal agency to help promote and develop exports. The Commercial Service is dedicated to assisting small-to-medium sized companies that have the capabilities to export a product and or service. The Las Vegas Export Assistance Center serves a diverse and multi-cultural trade community in Southern Nevada. The Las Vegas office is part of an international network consisting of Export Assistance Centers across the country and in over 80 countries. Our domestic and international offices are linked through a worldwide communications and information network which offers a unique and valuable service to U.S.-based companies.
  • Idaho Division of Tourism
    Former Administrator, 2007 - 2013
    Director of Tourism for Idaho tasked with developing and implementing Idaho’s travel promotion and marketing program with a $3.5 million budget as well as oversee a $3 million regional travel and convention grant program for non-profit tourism organizations. I represented the Department’s interest in tourism and general policy via speeches and public appearances throughout the state and other locations as appropriate and served as the key contact with regard to integration of tourism activities that supported other state and federal agencies and organizations’ operations. During my tenure we implemented a strategic social media program for the Division, which included separate marketing, policy and niche accounts in Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin and branded blogs. I also served as the Department’s key contact on tourism matters with the legislature, Western States Tourism Policy Council, Pacific Northwest Economic Region, and the Idaho Recreation and Tourism Initiative.

    International Tourism Specialist, 1992 - 2007
    Responsibilities included expansion of international visitation to Idaho by generating interest, creating awareness and enhancing the image of the State of Idaho and its tourism product at international trade shows and on trade missions. From 1995 to 2007 Idaho product in tour operator catalogs and websites increased 510% in the countries where Idaho has representation through Rocky Mountain International. France and Belgium led the growth at 1855%, followed by our largest overseas tourism market, the United Kingdom at 777%. Italy has increased 271% since we opened that market in 1999 and Germany is stabilizing at 129% growth.
