This time of year sees us all getting excited about putting up our Christmas decorations. Having a cosy fire with stockings hanging from the mantle piece and a frosty looking tree close by can be very tempting. These decorations can be highly combustible though and if they are positioned too close to any type of fire (closed stoves too) this could result in a catastrophic fire. So keep the decs away from those fires and let's all enjoy a safe and fun Christmas. http://www.fireservice.co.uk/safety/christmas http://ow.ly/FCutC

A quick reminder that the APICS inspired refresher course for sweeps is being held again at www.stovaxtraining.com/ , Exeter on Friday 23rd of May. This is open to all HETAS approved sweeps (not just APICS).

The steering committee have decided to recommend that a refresher course be part of the APICS continuous development section of our constitution.

As with all HETAS installers, every five years sweeps would be required to attend a one day training session to make sure they were up to date with all the latest installation regulations. We are, after all, usually, the first knowledgeable people to see the installation after the fact. It falls to us to really know what we are talking about and be able to give the best advice. This is bound to have the effect of improving the status of chimney sweeps generally.

Members get an opportunity to vote on this matter at the forthcoming AGM on the 4th of July at The Ship Inn, Alveston, Bristol - ALL SWEEPS are welcome to this meeting, come along and let us know your views.

Remember, APICS members have voted to allow those who attend suitable course to apply to APICS for a 20% refund of the course fee (before VAT). This is a qualifying course!
