This is a followup about the Apple C-to-Lightning cable situation: I had assumed the Apple cable was "smarter" than it was, when it reality it exposed an issue with the chargers being tested. They don't have "fallback" current advertisement over the USB data pins, which is an optional feature intended for "legacy" Type-A devices like iPhones and microUSB tablets. You need a charger with an optional, special chip (TPS2513A) on the USB data pins to support these devices.

(PS: "USB Condoms" also cause this problem!)
