In 1853, Charles Dickens took to the stage for the first time to read from A Christmas Carol, and so began what was to become one of the most- talked theatrical phenomena of the Victorian age.
It was a series of readings that would include extracts from many
of his most famous works, and which would confound audiences’ expectations on both sides of the Atlantic right through until 1870, when the demands of performing the terrifying Sykes & Nancy against doctors’ orders were to hasten his demise.
Now, to mark the bicentenary of Charles Dickens’ birth, New Perspectives are delighted to present a recreation of the magic of that first reading - the perfect way to experience the original heart-warming, spine-tingling Christmas story from the greatest storyteller ever to have written in the English language.
