An elegy for the passing of an era that Gutenberg ushered in. But as every era fades, another is born. The king is dead; long live the king. But we don't quite know yet how words are going to make a living for anyone in this new age. We're all wondering if even Jeff Bezos has it figured out.

I've just returned from the Las Vegas Market, where I visited with Vietri, saw what Charles Viancin is up to this year, and looked at the new items in Jessie Steele's collection. I also talked to tag's national sales director...

I visited the Western Foodservice & Hospitality Expo last week and returned with a couple of reports: this one, which just takes a walk around the exhibit hall, and another one, not written yet, that demonstrates that upscale...

Very sad but beautiful blog post about saying good-bye and moving on through death.

According to the desk clerk, no hot water is just something that happens when the hotel is "full of people."

The front desk clerk says that having to wait a long time (half an hour in my case) for the water to run hot is just something that "happens when we're full of people." The bathroom floor wasn't clean. The only condiment packet supplied for the coffee maker had been opened and used before us. They've dropped the free WiFi in the rooms. The free WiFi in the lobby is available only in 30 minute increments. Stay elsewhere. I used to come here two or three times a year, but we're canceling our company's reservation for May.

Steve showed up when I was expecting him, climbed up onto my roof and figured out why the air conditioner wasn't air conditioning, and fixed it fast. No fuss, no patronizing, no turning a little problem into a big problem. Very nice experience.
