Kim is amazing. Went on a tour with her a few weeks ago and she knows Napa inside and out. My wife and I don't normally hang with other couples but by the end of the tour we found ourselves hanging with another couple from Norway and from Minneapolis. Definitely the group to tour with!

Very interesting article in the NY Times about the emergence of a different POV on how quality wines should be judged. American wine tastes are driven by the "the Wine Advocate" and founder Robert M. Parker Jr. Big, bold and with a high alcohol content. But is there more to to tasting wine than having your buds bulldozered? many winemakers feel that,,,http://www.nytimes.com/2015/05/31/magazine/the-wrath-of-grapes.html
A band of upstart winemakers is trying to redefine what California wine should taste like — and enraging America’s most famous oenophile in the process.

Wonderful time! Walking out of our hotel the night before our tour, we were still undecided about taking a group tour or just going ourselves. Fortunately for us a Platypus as returning so we spent time chatting with the folks on the tour as well as their driver Sandy. There was nothing but positives from them, so we called and booked our tour for the next morning. Our driver Kim was so knowledgable and friendly. She made our trip memorable and took us to some fantastic wineries. Highly recommend - no need to have a designated driver and you can taste until your heart is content. Thanks platypus and Kim for another great day in Napa!

Great bus, friendly people from all walks of life and our guide was great and very knowledgeable. If you want to have a great wine tasting tour in the Valley, stop looking, this is your company. They do charge tasting fees on top FYI, but they get a discount and most are 15 bucks. Lunch is included in the tour as well.

We had a great time on our tour with our guide Andy! He was so knowledgeable about the Napa/Sonoma area, different regions, wines, etc. We had a group of 10 and went to 4 boutique wineries in Napa! It was great because we got to tour the whole winery, even some of the vines, barrel rooms, and bottling centers. The wine was all delicious and we had a great day on our Platypus Wine Tour! I will definitely be recommending to anyone heading that way!

What a great decision to book a tour with Platypus. We actually booked the combination balloon tour in the morning and Platypus the rest of the day. Our tour guide Lisa called us to let us know she was on the way and picked us up at Domaine Chandon where the balloon tours start and end. There were four other couples on the bus ranging in ages and from all over the country. Lisa brought us to four different wineries, provided plenty of drinking water, a snack, and a great lunch set up outside at the third winery. At each winery they were expecting us and either had a tour guide ready or sit down tasting set up. One of the guy's on the tour said we might as well have been VIP's at the first stop since we had a personal tour and were separated from the regular tasting guests and he was right. At one of the stop's the tasting fee was cut in half since we were with Platypus, but we bought wine in 3 of the 4 stops anyways and tasting fees were usually waived. The bus we traveled in was comfortable and clean Lisa inventoried all the purchased wine so that nothing got mixed up and for ten dollars they'll sell you a box to bring it home in. I bought the box and did exactly what I was told....bring it to the airport open so they can inspect it, then they sealed it and checked it. When we got home everything was totally fine, worked great and for 10 bucks absolutely worth it. I'm not sure why people are surprised about tasting fees in a couple of these reviews, literally everything you will encounter on this tour is explained in their email when you book. It all played out exactly as expected and it was fantastic. Props to Platypus for doing a great job, this tour is COMPLETELY worth it...I suggest you stop reading and just go book it. We met great people and even hung out with a few the next day, if I returned I would book again without question. Highest recommendation.

My fiancé and I chose this tour for our first day in Napa and we are SO glad we did! It was certainly a highlight of our whole Napa/San Francisco trip. Chris was the most wonderful guide. From the very beginning of the day when he picked us up at the hotel, he made us feel welcome and got the whole group excited with a fun ice breaker. There were four other couples on our tour and the set-up of the bus (couches around the outer walls facing the center) facilitated conversation and people getting to know each other. Throughout the day, Chris took us to four amazing wineries that we would not have found/would not have been able to visit on our own. The wineries that we visited were mostly family-run/smaller production wineries and we certainly got the royal treatment at each one. In addition to wine tasting, education was also a focus of the day. We learned not only about how to smell and taste wine properly, but also about the history of Napa, why European grape vines are grafted onto American root stock, the process of growing and harvesting grapes, and much more! When we got back on the bus after the first vineyard, we were served cheese and crackers, and after our second winery visit, we were served a delicious lunch in the garden there. Chris was even able to accommodate my gluten allergy! Cold water bottles were also plentiful on the bus throughout the day. I truly can't say enough positive things about Platypus tours. Don't miss this fabulous opportunity to see and learn about wine country!

Best way to see the Valley! We were picked up right on time in front of our B&B by Steve who wished us a happy anniversary! ;) Then Steve picked up guests from around Napa and were on our way. Steve was extremely knowledgeable and obviously had great rapport with each winery that we visited. They all knew him by name and talked with him like they were old friends. Steve talked to us about the history of the valley and the wineries and just wine making in general. We never felt out of place and by the end of the day we all had made a lot of new friends. The lunch was perfect- and the water and cheese/crackers throughout the day were great. It was our first visit to Napa and we will definitely be back and will do another Platypus tour!

Platypus Wine Tours is the absolute best tour option for wine country! My wife and I did both the Napa and Sonoma tours and they were both unique and phenomenal. We had Robbie on day 1 and Louie on day 2. Each were incredibly knowledgable, funny, friendly and made the journey and experience absolutely perfect. I really like how they go to 4 stops in each region and they are all off the beaten path for the most part (micro-wineries), so you most likely will not have seen them in your local store. The last stop always seems to be the most mellow and secluded of the day, a place you could only find with local knowledge. The lunches were health, tasty, and quality. the wines were all great, and i would say exceeded our flavor expectations, because as I mentioned, they were high quality wineries that produced in small batches. This lead to highly concentrated notes and very robust taste. Sonoma and Napa offered a great contrast and Platypus delivered. It's a no brainer, Platypus is the way to go and best option for enjoying wine country to its fullest potential. Thanks Much! -Kevin + Katie D, Ohio

We booked onto the Platypus Wine Tour for our honeymoon, with the wonderful Mark as our tour guide. We had the most wonderful day! Accompanied by 8 other people who made the whole trip a hoot, the 4 wineries were great and the tastings incredible. It was everything we hoped Napa to be, and we would definitely recommend them to anyone wanting a taster of the wine region! Thanks again to Mark, what a star!

I have used Platypus Tours several times during my trip to Napa and Sonoma. They are by far the most knowledgeable wine tour company, and the drivers understand what true hospitality means. Platypus Tours offers lunch on their tours. The drivers are also courteous to ask what type of wines his/her guests enjoy, and customize their tours based on their guests preferences! Love Love Love!
