Early August I took an overnight trip to Chigasaki to enjoy the fireworks on the beach. So close to Tokyo, well worth the trip. The one thing I wish I'd gotten a photo of? Surfers biking to the beach, one hand on the handle bars, one arm hooked around their board.

A midsummer hike through Kamakura's Ten-en hiking trail. The light drizzle was perfect that day, and cooled things down, kept noisy humans away, but woke up the wildlife. It felt like Tokyo, and civilization, was a million miles away.

At the start of summer some friends and I hit the weekend craft market in Zoshigaya. Amazing collection of creative artists and craftspeople. Left with a taiyaki (fish cake) shaped pendant necklace, though I wanted one of everything.

Spring 2014 cherry blossoms - and the resulting hoards of people - in Ueno Park in Tokyo. I normally don't hit Ueno for cherry blossoms, but my real estate agent's office was nearby so I popped up on a lunch break. If you plan to go, either get there early or just be content to drift where the crowd takes you.

Glowing goldfish. What more could you want? An Edo-period kimono exhibit, technicolor sakura celebration, and then a trip across the street to Mitsukoshi to get some ichigo daifuku. A day well spent.

Back in March a number of old cultural schools had an exhibition at Mitsukoshi in Nihonbashi, Tokyo. Kimono, incense, horseback archery, and more!
