Spotlight on the Dark Side of Religion...

I saw the film Spotlight yesterday. At first I wasn't up to going, figured, been there, seen it, done it; but, the movie took me by surprise. It rekindled my sensitivity to the human capacity for denial, in this case, people denying the reality of the dark side of religion and innocents suffering as the result.

Treating patients in psychotherapy scathed by the dark side of religion helped to inspire the story of The Unholy . One elderly woman once said, "Let the clergy do what they want, but don't get caught, and keep giving us our religion." That's quite a frightening idea considering people's lives are on the line.

A trusted colleague said, "People erect the system and then fight to maintain it. It becomes corrupt, and they don't get it. They don't want to get it." There are so many who have gone through hell emotionally and spiritually under the lash of the dark side of religion. Hopefully, we'll increasingly grow to see that the system is corrupt, and we'll want to get it, and we will get it."

His warm voice, loving feelings embedded in words, loosened the grip of negativism and self doubt...Read More: http://www.pauldeblassieiii.com/blog.htm?post=1011325

The Weightiness of Tension and the Path to Love...
"Anthony tried to soothe Claire's restlessness, to no avail. She wanted to relax, but the instant she permitted herself to move closer to Anthony her muscles tightened...He understood and lightly stroked her hair..Anthony's touch loving and quieting." (The Unholy p. 58)

Forces of Darkness and Light...

(p.158) Forces of light and darkness depict the struggle in the human psyche for life, death, and transformation. The battle leads us to something that affects us, our life, our relationships...
