Making a little sandbox-y game for my daughter. She said she wanted a "rainbow game" so thought seven locations, each with a colour theme might be good. A Green Gully, a Red Rock and so on.

She wanted princesses in the game and she likes action and scary things so I suggested we have three princesses to choose from.

Me: "How about Princess Giant-Rider, she rides around the countryside on the shoulder of a giant; and, Princess Ghost-Talker, she can see ghosts and ask them for help? What do you think?"
CJ: "Good!"
Me: "Do you want to come up with one?"
CJ: "Princess Frilly-the-Cat!"
Me: "...erm-"
CJ: "-she's got white hair, pink and white frilly armour, a giant sword and a pink and white stripy kitten who helps her solve problems!"
Me: "...OK then."

Pics to follow as this project develops :)

This Really Happened

In a shop today, a little old lady, hard of hearing, was quite taken with my daughter, CJ. Chatting to us, she shouted nearly every other word without realising she was doing so, "How OLD are YOU?" "What's your NAME?" and so on.

As we went to leave she gave CJ a lollipop.

Lady: "I'm only giving YOU this BECAUSE your dad's here! You know NEVER to take things from STRANGERS, yes?!"
CJ: "Yes..."
Me: "Aww, say thank yo-"
Lady: "-Because they might KILL YOU!"

Just had a really fun go of this 2-player Lord Of The Rings game with my wife. Sauron's forces did not beat the Fellowship in the end but it was still really strategic and fun! One to add to our collection I think :)

Summertime is coming up, and am trying to find games that I can play/hack-to-play with my daughter.

I'm hoping to finally break out the My Little Pony RPG and run a little campaign for her and my wife. As CJ is really into Lego I mentioned that I had a Lego robots game where you have teams of robots fighting or trying to race to find things - thinking I could hack something suitable for an almost-5 year old from Mobile Frame Zero Rapid Attack - and that you got to design and make your own robots to play it.

She seemed interested when I mentioned it yesterday, but quickly went back to watching Spirit: Riding Free on Netflix and doing some colouring.

Coming back from nursery today she suddenly said, "Oh! On the back of my colouring sheets and dot-to-dot I started designing my robots!" It took me a moment to think what she meant and when I checked she said, "Yeah, for the Lego game. I'm going to have a child robot, and also one with a motorbike and a zap-gun!"

Work-in-progress father/daughter collaboration for map of the basement area underneath an evil wizard's house/castle.

Edit: I'll try to key or provide some descriptions later!

Just saw this pic of what looks (to my eye) like a side-on dungeon room in my daughter's current sketchbook. She's 4. It wasn't there five minutes ago.

I asked what it was and she said very matter-of-fact "It's the secret room and those (at the sides) are the tunnels into other secret rooms."

New project: father-daughter collaborative dungeon module?

A few weeks ago I was in a taxi, stuck in traffic, and the local "classics" station played Vincent by Don McLean, a song which I hadn't heard for ages and which I've listened to at least once per day since.

This video on YouTube, which shows many Van Gogh pieces, got me thinking... Has anyone created a game/module/adventure/setting that is directly related to or inspired by the output of a famous dead artist?

Does anyone know of anything like that?

Also: watching this video got me thinking about a mystery-/hex-crawl through a countryside setting, a series of villages trying to figure out some weirdness. Excellent, interconnected NPCs, odd locations that change your emotional state maybe...

Arrived in the post this morning! :)

Was very happy to back this on Kickstarter and super-psyched to get the "it's on the way" email a few days ago. Only had a few minutes to skim through today, but love what I see - and really love the cover!

Thanks +Stephanie Bryant and all your collaborators, this is awesome! :)

Helping daughter with chargen for our family Tails Of Equestria game that we're going to start playing this weekend (hopefully). Time to talk equipment and then find somewhere on map to start. Then I can think up a few story threads with her. My wife is going to play a pegasus, while I GM and run an earth pony NPC to round out there little adventuring party.

(Yes, I traced the portrait!)
