The real power of coming out isn’t just that it lets people be themselves, but that it disrupts others’ sense of the world.

"Game of Thrones" makes its biggest deviation yet from George R.R. Martin's books in an episode that explores the power of unlikely pairings.

The actors who quit won't necessarily get more opportunities. But they've set a strong standard that Netflix and other actors will have to pay attention to.

A parody of "Friday Night Lights" that looks at rape and elite athletes feels more like a cry of despair than the end to an argument about culture and sexual assault.

Does female executives really make a difference in Hollywood? Kathleen Kennedy's stewardship of the "Star Wars" franchise will be a test of that idea.

Far from being proof that Boston's sports culture is amoral, the conviction of former Patriot Aaron Hernandez for murder proves that cities, law enforcement and teams can shake off hero worship.

Bonus: me on video.
If you’ve never read George R.R. Martin’s novels, you might be confused why fans of the books are freaking out about the third episode of “Game of Thrones" Season 5. The Post's Alyssa Rosenberg explains.

A powerful episode of Louis C.K.'s sitcom confirms our distaste for cops who abuse their power, then forces us to confront the spectacle of a person in terrible pain and regret.

"The Americans" ends its powerful third season with Ronald Reagan's "Evil Empire" speech and a deep reckoning with what it means to be a good person.

It's satisfying to watch Daredevil go up against a thuggish developer, but "Daredevil" pushes up against the limits of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Story
Introduction
I'm the culture writer for the Washington Post's Opinions sections, which means I think big thoughts about Captain America, Archie Comics, and the sexual politics of Game of Thrones for a living. Before I was at the Post, I founded the culture and sports sections at ThinkProgress, wrote about federal personnel policy for Government Executive, and was the fact-checker for National Journal. I live in Washington, DC. And She-Hulk is my alter ego.
