I like this bit from the CNN article:

Outraged and baffled, Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, crossed through an opening in the railing earlier in the morning–before the breach–and got on the phone to try and reach the secretary of the Department of Interior. "I don't get it. I'm furious. I'm trying to get a hold of people," he said, standing on the other side of the barricade and looking around for help. "But I can't seem to get a hold of anybody."

All I can think is, well, Senator, that would be because the government is closed. #shutdown

Pinto is a 'feral' that was dumped by his previous owners, rescued from streets and he is staying with us temporarily until adoption space opens up at the Hinsdale Humane Society. If anyone wants an outgoing, friendly male cat with all his shots and is neutered, then let me know! He is good with kids, cats and dogs (completely unfazed by barking puppy).

Raccoon?

The tracks are frozen into the ice. They go up my front walk, down the side of the house, past the garage and out into the alley.

Co-Worker showed me how to take a panorama on my phone last week. I tested on my sunroom.

I think it is terrible for education in this country to be eliminating the academic departments at a major research institution.
I know it is very appealing to state scientific inquiry is so important that the public should pay for it. I know it is also woefully insufficient. How best to explain to the world why the Field Museum is as important as it is? How best to do so in a way that is compelling to the world at large? Not just to compel the audience to open minds but to open wallets.

Chicago's landmark Field Museum of Natural History needs you. Science, environmentalism, adaptation, species reintroduction-- these missions are at risk.
