I was blown away. The whole thing sounded silly to me and the promotional photos I saw of people in drag wasn't exactly a selling point. However, I went on a Saturday night and it was absolutely hysterical. All the skits and songs were well written. I didn't always agree with the politics, but the jokes were always funny. The best part might have been the magician, who performed tricks that were David Copperfield caliber.

I finally had the opportunity to take in a show at Ester's Follies a few weeks ago and I don't know what took me so long! It is an Austin icon for a reason. Although some of the content is a little dated and always performed, the newer bits were really funny and spot on to current events. I definitely recommend bringing out of town visitors to a show, even your grandma. There are a few vulgar bits, but overall everything is just plain entertaining. They have been known to offer 2 for 1 tickets on Groupon like sites for specific weekends, so keep a look out!

There's one thing you should know...That this is absolutely the funniest, most clever and absolutely incredible live show that I have ever seen! I've asked friends who have seen it to describe it and well all agree that it is INDESCRIBABLE! Just go. It is a political satire, musical and comedy magic show and review with. Again, Really enjoyed the show and feel it is a must for any visitor (with a sense of humor) to the Austin area. The cast kept the audience laughing the entire time. Be sure to make reservations as the shows sell out quickly. If you in the Austin area, don't miss this attraction.

EF blew away my expectations. It's half magic half comedy w/ most of the comedy being delivered in song. The material draws from current politics/pop culture and Texas beliefs. My favorite skits were the TX-related ones as they poked fun at our superiority complex, gun-loving ways and growing pains in highly amusing ways. Shows run ~2 hours with a 10 minute intermission and the energy never drops. The best thing I can say is everyone from teens to elderly will definitely laugh and enjoy his/her experience. Watch sites like Amazon Local, Living Social, Groupon etc - EF usually runs a ticket special 2x a year through these services!

I mostly come here for SXSW events, but on the rare occasion will pop in during the year for random events. The place is always a very inviting area when you come in. They do have a smoking patio for those that still do, and it's not far from their bar, where they also serve snacks. The drinks are decently priced as are the snacks. The seating is one issue i would have with the place, but after a few drinks you tend not to notice being uncomfortable. Definitely recommend this place is you ever have a chance to go.

Really an Austin gem. This is a wonderful place to bring out of town guests. The cast is truly talented and Esther still makes appearances in the shows. You can feel the strong sense of family among the cast members and I feel like I'm part of a unique Austin tradition when I go. The content changes ever-so-often, so I tend to go back a couple of times/year.
