Manufacturing output fell for the third time in the past four months. U.S. factories are reporting the worst business conditions for over three years. The decline brings the PMI closer in line with other regional surveys and the assessment from the ISM.

"White House proposes $2 billion to increase apprenticeships" By Tyler Kendall

The Obama administration Tuesday proposed a $2 billion Apprenticeship Training Fund as part of its 2017 budget proposal to fulfill the president’s 2014 pledge to double the number of apprentices in the USA before he leaves office. While common in Europe, apprenticeship has yet to catch on in the USA, which less than one half of 1% of the workforce was in last year.

A Ford and Google deal has the potential to deliver benefits to both companies. By Ford letting Google use its vehicle design, Google will not only save billions in developmental costs, but will also let them focus on the automated driving software.

Deloitte and the Manufacturing Institute have collaborated over the past decade to develop studies that examine the public perception of manufacturing, skills gap in manufacturing and women in manufacturing. Building upon that research, Deloitte is now collaborating with the Manufacturing Day Producers to measure how Manufacturing Day is positively impacting the perception of the industry and its career options.

Manufacturing in U.S. Contracts at Fastest Pace Since 2009 by Victoria Stilwell, Bloomberg

The Institute for Supply Management’s index dropped to 48.6, the lowest level since June 2009, from 50.1 in October, a report from the Tempe, Arizona-based group showed Tuesday. The November figure was weaker than the most pessimistic forecast in a Bloomberg survey. Readings less than 50 indicate contraction.
