Another article about electric utilities and their effort to cling to the century-old regulated monopoly business model.

This article got me thinking about the business model current(ly) (pun intended) used by electric utilities. If their revenues continue to decline as outlined in the trade group report then what happens when they go out of business? Would they go out of business? If so, what becomes of the transmission lines? Is this an area to explore, ownership of transmission lines?

Greetings all. I have been a member of the group for a few weeks and, if my memory has not played tricks on me, I have yet to introduce myself. I am a fan of renewable energy systems and sustainability efforts. At present I am unemployed and have no background in any of the fields I mentioned. I am compelled to find meaningful work and welcome suggestions from group members.
I have completed course-work in solar photovoltaic and solar thermal systems and installation. I earned an entry level certificate from the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) for solar PV and have a Building Analyst Professional certificate from the Building Performance Institute.
I look forward to the articles members post to the group and the discussions they generate.
