Awesome Vietnamese restaurant, would highly recommend. Food is great, huge portions, service is incredibly fast and everyone is nice. This is the perfect hole in the wall place to get your grub on.

Food here is amazing and the price is very reasonable! We got another dish which we did not order. Even we tried to pay for it, the owner did not charge us for it! Very good place to enjoy Vietnamese food!

I think my favorite is the #13 spicy beef soup. Also had the #7 beef soup many times and pork/shrimp soup. Very good. Best prices.

Great Vietnamese at great price. Large portions too. The beef or pork with rice dishes are good, as are the fried imperial rolls.

The retardant is located in a very sketchy neighborhood “ Tenderloin” in the city. The price tag is not quite reflecting that factor and on a higher end. I was disappointed when I was told by the waitress that she couldn’t separate the sliced beef from the noodle. It is quite common service that almost all Vietnamese restaurants would provide but not at Tu lan obviously. The lady claims “ the meat is thick”. I ordered “ Beef ball noodle instead”. It is definitely the worst beef ball noodle that I have ever had. The beef ball is tasteless and the broth is full of MSG. It doesn’t even come with a bean sprout and lemon wedges until I asked. All in all, I won’t come back this restaurant again. For a nice restaurant in a notorious area, it might worth risking your life to try. But Tu Lan is not one of them.

One of my favorite restaurants in all of San Francisco, because the food is super great and affordable. Make sure you eat here at least once if you are visiting San Francisco.

Without a doubt, this remains one of the very best Vietnamese restaurants with no pretentions whatsoever. You can't go wrong - this is a family that knows their cuisine. Sketchy neighborhood is an understatement - but it's only one building shy of Market Street so there's no reason to be afraid. (If it's nighttime and you have to park lower on 6th, I might suggest parking somewhere else (say at 5th & Mission) and taking a taxi). Although the decor lacks in every possible interpretation of that word, the food is stupendous. Julia Child ate there back in the day and the food/family have not changed since. I've been eating there since 1986.

I'm picky when it comes to food. But this place is one of my favorites.
