While on his spiritual journey, the holy man Neophytos discovered this location in 1159 and alone there, on a hill overlooking Paphos, he managed to carve out his cave – marking the beginning of the monastery’s construction. At some point the Bishop of Paphos requested he invite fellow priests to join him and so he did and together they built the Saint Neophytos monastery. Theodore Apsevd, a master of religious art, is responsible for the decorations inside the cave and monastery, which thankfully are still visible today for all of us to admire!
Visit Cyprus Land, the island’s first and only medieval theme park to find out more!

Did you know that Nicosia was once a fully walled city with 5 km of fortified walls that rose to a height of 12 meters? Although the walls were originally built by the Franks, the Venetians updated the walls as they needed to be stronger and smaller so that the Venetian army could control the entire area better. .Enter www.cyprusland.com.cy for more details.
