There's a lot of controversy over this type of Bill. If you read the actual legislation, all it says is that the state will not do business with any company that discriminates based on any number of traditional categories such as national origin, gender, religious affiliation cetera.

Part of the controversy is that the anti-israeli/pro-palestinian contingent thinks this removed from them the ability to boycott. It most emphatically does not. The individual's right to boycott was never removed by the legislation and is specifically stated as preserved by the legislation.

The anti-discrimination Clause is applied against businesses. Businesses are not people, they have no individual rights, should have no free speech rights Etc because they're just a corporation.

This legislation is also important because it gives the state of Massachusetts additional tools for dealing with Christian's discriminating against LGBT, anti-muslim, white supremacist etcetera. I suspect that this locket also be used because companies like Hobby Lobby and their misogynistic views on women's health care.

SHIVA AYYADURAI IS A LIAR! HE DIDN'T INVENT ELECTRONIC MAIL!

There, I said it too. Who else wants to join the chorus and signal-boost? This asshole is now trying to sue Techdirt to the tune of $15M for libel. Seriously!? Does this get your rocks off at the end of the day, Shiva? I know some strange sexual fetishes, but this really goes a bit far.

SHIVA AYYADURAI IS A LIAR! HE DIDN'T INVENT ELECTRONIC MAIL!

Electronic mail did not begin with Ayyadurai's creation of a program called "EMAIL" in 1978 or 1979 (not clear) when he was 14 years old. Electronic mail existed as early as 1965, when he was an infant,¹ and was even actively being standardized by 1973, when he was just 8.²

SHIVA AYYADURAI IS A LIAR! HE DIDN'T INVENT ELECTRONIC MAIL!

It is a lie of substitution -- intentionally misleading people by repeatedly implying that his program, which happened to be named "EMAIL" (note the capital letters), is synonymous with "email" as the term meaning "electronic mail".

SHIVA AYYADURAI IS A LIAR! HE DIDN'T INVENT ELECTRONIC MAIL!

Frankly, this guy should have his doctorate disavowed at this point. He hired the attorney who killed Gawker Media, thinking that his claims have some kind of merit. Sorry, Shiva, but you're just dead wrong. And your claims are tarnishing the actual good names of people like Jon Postel and Vint Cerf. If anyone is libeling and slandering others, IT IS YOU.

SHIVA AYYADURAI IS A LIAR! HE DIDN'T INVENT ELECTRONIC MAIL!

You want to get credit for your niche contribution to electronic mail? Sure, I get that. Hell, I've contributed to several popular standards without my name even on them. But that does not give you the right to try to wring money out of people who are simply calling you out on your bullshit.

SHIVA AYYADURAI IS A LIAR! HE DIDN'T INVENT ELECTRONIC MAIL!

And in case it isn't clear, this post contains some degree of sarcasm. The bold statement continually repeated here is entirely true, however:

SHIVA AYYADURAI IS A LIAR! HE DIDN'T INVENT ELECTRONIC MAIL!

2016 has officially crossed the threshold of "give me a flocking[1] break". I'm just praying that a year from now, we are not saying "2016 wasn't that bad"

The Washington Post's David Fahrenthold has done some of the best journalism about Trump's corruption. He's had help -- from his readers. I talk about this in the Atlantic.
