Instreamia is now a Chrome App! This means you can launch it right from a new tab. As more people download the Chrome App, it will become more popular on the web store to help more people discover it.

Group Discussion: What are the challenges in online learning?

How do we engage and incentivize students?
How do we make use of computerized metrics to get a sense of the direction of the class?
What do you do about the “absent” student who doesn’t participate?
How do we make sure students learn accurate information while in peer discussions?
How can we leverage the type of highly social interactivity we see online to promote positive peer interaction that leads to learning
What can online education teach us about the changing typology of the modern student?
How do we carry over the most important lessons of traditional education into online learning
How do we improve the interface of online education beyond the use of threaded discussion boards

Hi Sandruka - I'm happy to know this phrase in Spanish! You probably already know the standard usage in English. Here it is >> Information Gap Activities (often shortened to: info gap activities). Cheers!

I´d say that the classroom dynamics is very important to solve different problems with our students. Morover, I´d say that it can work both, in the face to face classroom and while using ICT. It could be interesting to create different "groups of experts" with our students. For example, when we´re working in a text, each learner is expert on one of the topics of that text. Later he/she will have to collaborate with his/her group to achieve the goal of the task. By using this strategy, we are inviting our students to work with the rest of the class but in a way in which he/she feels comfortable and important for the group, interacting with the partners and far from the pressure which normally makes a student to be "absent".

Eric Sims I like they why you think. I used to be a manager and I for one know that just because you have a degree does not mean you are always the best person for the job. I think employers need to be educated in the fact that there are alternative ways to receive an education. Many of the people in the hiring positions in companies are not up to date with the fact that certain people learn better on their own. I'm most definitely one of those people. Put me in a room with other people and I get bored, distracted and sometimes even disruptive. I am the student who reads the whole text book and corrects the spelling mistakes and inaccuracies and points them out to the teacher. Many people still think that a certificate from an online institute has been "printed off some guys pc". Some even feel the same way about online diplomas. I say part of getting online students motivated is they have to know that their online certificate will be worth the time they have put into it. And that employers or universities will accept them.
