This week we’ve been looking at the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and in particular, we have been trying to map the educational outcomes in our apps(activities) to the objectives in there.

I haven’t looked at all of the documents (I’m saving that to read outside when it's quiet in the summer ;-) ), but the standards seem to be pretty comprehensive and they have similarities to the UK’s National Curriculum.

I have seen that various states have their own science standards, but i'm hoping they are largely based on the NGSS, or it might mean a lot of afternoons outside reading ....

Seeds to Plants allows children to find out about growing plants.
In the interactive experiment, they need to select the weather each day. A combination of sun and rain is best, but if children choose too much sun, the plants will wilts and if they choose snow, the plants will die of the cold.
The app has been available for a few weeks, and now we have a demo app version to let you try the lite version for free.

The lite version of our new app, Naming Parts of Plants and Animals, is out for ipads.
This app aims to help children get to know different parts of plants and animals. It's very colourful and fun to use, and in addition to adding parts and labels to complete an image, children can hear audio descriptions of the parts of plants or animals.
