Hi there, I intended to lurk as I'm an end user of digitised works but I've decided I should at least introduce myself as I am very interested in encouraging GLAM institutions to digitise their content.

I volunteer with the Smithsonian Transcription Center transcribing their digitised field books, specimen labels, and other materials in the Center. I also volunteer for the Biodiversity Heritage Library taxonomy tagging their digitised scientific art images published in Flickr. I'm a keen user of appropriately licensed digitised specimen images such as those imaged by Landcare Research and the Auckland War Memorial Museum as I enjoy sharing those images via Wikicommons and using them to illustrate appropriate articles in Wikipedia.

I'm keen to encourage GLAM institutions to consider the potential for the reuse of their digitised material and to consider what license they will be using if/when the institution makes the digitised material available for reuse.

Join us as we host Tulani Salahu-Din and discuss James Baldwin's collection in the Transcription Center and in exhibition at the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC). You'll learn more about Baldwin's work and life, how the collection was acquired, how exhibit decisions are made, and more.

View or download the collection from the completed Transcription Center project here:
