The ambience has something to be desired, just seemed to be a little lacking for a restaurant of this caliber. The crab bisque only had one piece of crab meat in the cup that I ordered which was very disappointing. It also had a piece of the crab shell and was just very lacking in flavor. For dinner I ordered the pan seared scallops that definitely brought this restaurant back for my palate. The scallops were cooked perfectly with a slight sear on the outside soft on the inside. The truffle risotto was an excellent addition to the dish and very flavorful. My husband ordered the New York strip steak that was one of the best steaks either of us had ever had. The 35 days that the steak had been aged for allowed it to be extremely tender, almost melts in your mouth. He also had the roasted garlic whipped potatoes and roasted Brussels sprouts with shallots and pancetta that were both very good. Overall, we would go back if we were in the area but would not go out of our way for this restaurant.

Excellent overall experience! Cuisine was top notch, service was perfect. NY strip was amazing, scallops were perfectly prepared, risotto was en pointe, ahi appetizer was fantastic. I can't wait to go back!

This place exudes class and elegance. The food is fantastic, and the service is perfect. I only recently found this historic gem, but I have been back 4 times already! I highly recommend this to anyone who likes find dining in a classy environment.

Disappointing. I came here really wanting to like this place. The food was very expensive, but it was nothing special. Our server was incredibly rude and inattentive. Maybe that was because my group wasn't age 80+ like the rest of the crowd on life support here. Friend: "Could I get another water?" Server: no response, turns away. Friend: "Excuse me, could I get a refill on water?" Server: "Yeah yeah I heard ya!" My friends and I won't be returning here.

Great food, great bread, great tomato soup and hamburger, called 'steakburger'. Will serve it rare if you like. Great chicken chili. Great changing menu, gracious service and atmosphere

I've been dining at The Hill since they opened with chef Micheal Connery. The place has recently been updated and they have a new executive chef who continues a legacy of quality. The food is outstanding and the "hill of perch" is possibly the best item on the menu. I've tried a bunch of different items including the steaks, salads, pizzas, etc everything is excellent. Never once had a bad meal! I have no idea where the bad service reviews are coming from...out of the maybe 40 times I've eaten here I've only ever had one less than desirable experience - and have never seen that waitress since (assume she was let go). The bar staff is amazing! If you come in more than once they remember your name, they even know your drink order before you sit down. The prices are great for what you get (Grosse Pointers have good taste but don't like to over pay and this place gets that). Expect to pay $16-35 for entree. Most items are priced in the middle of that range. They also have a great happy hour Monday-Thursday which offers $5 house cocktails and cheap small plates. Don't expect it to be too busy then though, the weekend is when this place really swings. Classic Grosse Pointe dining at it's finest.
