The funds raised at the Luau & Longboard Invitational support the mission of the Moores #UCSD  Cancer Center to translate promising scientific discoveries into new and better options for those fighting cancer.   We are grateful to all those in the community who have come together in the “Aloha Spirit” to surf for a cure and support the fight against cancer.   #cancerresearch

Welcome to Week 3 of #MakerCamp!  Today, our friend +Josef Szuecs is going to teach us how to make fun little robot action figures, using whatever you have lying around the house or garage.

Be sure to watch Joe's video (http://goo.gl/MJDG2), and tune in at noon PST for a live Hangout with him!

Good morning, #MakerCamp !  For today’s #makermonday   project, we’re going to be building robots out of...well...whatever we can scrounge up!

[A caveat to start: we probably won’t end up with real robots, but they’ll look cool and they’re fun to show off]

Step 1: Figure out what size you want your robot to be, because this will determine what kinds of materials you use. Do you want to make a band of mini robot friends? Or a giant robot that can sit on your desk and glare at people?

Step 2: Time for the treasure hunt. Dig through your house, your garage, and your yard to find cool-looking stuff. Don’t take anything your parents or siblings will miss, obviously.

Step 3: Time to start building. There are 1001 ways to do this. Attach the pieces with glue (E-6000 is good stuff), staples, pins, screws, tape...whatever. Get creative!

Step 4: Take a photo or two and let’s see what you made. Add the #MakerCamp   hashtag so we’ll see them.

Step 5: If you get attached to your new robot friend, keep him/her around, because tomorrow we’ll learn how to bring them to life.

If you need a burst of creativity, check out my video of robot creations as inspiration for your own project: Joe Szuecs - Robot Sculptures

I’ll be on a Hangout today at noon PST. Tune in and I’ll share some of my creations and answer your questions.

Check out new #Studio mode!  Making your #HOA concerts better.

Hangouts On Air: making live concerts more awesome with Studio Mode

Since we launched Google+ a little over a year ago, we’ve seen a thriving community of musicians connect with fans in really cool ways. In particular: singer/songwriters like +Daria Shishkina  bands like +Suite 709  and many others are using Hangouts On Air to perform live for global audiences, and jam with fans face-to-face.

We wanted to make these live hangout concerts sound more like the stage, so today we're rolling out Studio Mode. As a musician, all you need to do is start your Hangout On Air, click settings, and switch from Voice to Studio Mode.

Studio Mode optimizes your individual audio for music instead of conversation, and no else else needs to change a thing! Check out the video with +Suite 709  to hear the difference (and for the full effect, listen with your favorite pair of headphones).

Congratulations to the +San Diego Zoo for their newest addition to the family! #pandabears  #panda

Our giant panda team recently got their first look at the new cub. At approximately 9 p.m. on July 30, Bai Yun left the den for the first time to get a drink of water. Female pandas fast for several days after giving birth, but it's not unusual for them to need water a day or two postpartum. Watch Bai Yun do her thing on Panda Cam: http://sandiegozoo.org/pandacam or watch on our mobile app: http://www.sandiegozoo.org/app

Congratulations to the Regional philanthropic Winners!   #stayclassysandiego .

Excited to announce the Regional Winners for the 4th Annual CLASSY Awards, the largest philanthropic awards ceremony in the country! See the full list: http://bit.ly/MQAwli

We coordinated +Google+ Hangouts with each Regional Winner, telling them we needed to conduct a "final interview" with them, but really, we just wanted to capture their reactions to the good news. This video says it all...

Try the Everest Pizza with wheat crust if you're looking for a bomb meat pizza. Hawaiian Paia Extreme pizza was good too. Nice salads as well.

Best Rice in SD- or at least in the conversation. Family-owned feel, attention to detail on the dishes. Excellent lamb and beef. Not in the mood, definitely have the Pizza then. Visit this local ethnic cuisine once, and you will be back!

Knowledgeable about cruisers, mountain bikes, and tune-ups. Local guy takes pride in his shop. Great repairs. Array of locks necessary for local cruising.

Cody and Maria helped me resolve my situation and happily get on with my day. Short on change, and forced to leave out my produce, two fantastic Albertsons' employees came to the rescue. There is no question this family-like atmosphere keeps me returning to this Albertsons!
