HARMONY HOTEL NOSARA, COSTA RICA The Harmony is immaculate, with a simple, beautiful and regionally appropriate design evoking calmness, and that sense of being away while totally comfortable! The staff is lovely and highly capable! The food is absolutely extraordinary, completely organic, delicious and a consistent delight. The organic juice smoothie and sandwich and salad bar offers wonderful selections of everything truly healthy. The Air Conditioning works fantastically well. So does the Wifi, which is high speed. The rooms... at least ours, had a great fenced in patio with an always refreshing outdoor shower. Of course, the beach is beyond magnificent... a short walk down nature's path, with white sand stretching endlessly, and for those who are surfers, as you well know, a surfers haven. Yes, there is endless yoga, and a beautiful outdoor studio at the Harmony, where I often practiced on my own, though there are plenty of classes here, at the Institute, and elsewhere. In fact, we found Mark, an extraordinary yoga teacher across from the Harmony and next to Tica Massage, whose daily 11 am class is very demanding and filled with handsome 20 and 30 year old skilled practitioners along with a few expats and a couple of older guys like me, working on “keeping it going”. Even with the awesome physicality in Mark’s class, it is a deeply rewarding and spiritual session that is centered and connected and fun. I swam laps everyday ... no its not a full lap pool and there is not a gym on the property... but before 7:30 in the morning the pool is empty and big enough for a worthwhile workout. There seem to be plenty of places to do chin ups... bars from the ceiling in the yoga pavilion or in Mark's studio... and between yoga, swimming, running on the beach and surfing for those so inclined, and the incredible, healthy, delicious food, it is a time of pure health, relaxation and wellbeing. There is a supremely creative miniature golf course a 3 minute walk away in town... You've never seen one like this in the States. And surprisingly, two brand new, perfect clay tennis courts are directly across from golf. The Harmony has bikes that you can use at no charge, and ride on the beach or in town, and getting further distance is easy with taxis driven by the nicest people. We used dollars and credit cards everywhere which was absolutely not an issue. Overall, a very beautiful, relaxing week, filled with exercise, yoga, great food, and a happy 10 year old, who connected with another kid his age. The property is super safe for children, … we had such a great time with our son … and the spirit of the Harmony is true to its name... harmonious, peaceful, and very special. Breakfast is included... and excellent, and while food prices are not inexpensive, they are fair and for the quality and organic, creative dishes, appropriate. By the way, we did try a few other places to eat, but frankly appreciated the lightness and ingredients at the Harmony. It’s true that driving to the Harmony Hotel in Nosara from the Costa Rican, West coast airport in Liberia almost seems like National Lampoon Vacation. It is not a visually pretty ride (well here and there of course the countryside vistas are beautiful) and for the last hour or so, it is all bounces over the rocky dirt roads. One expects an oasis upon arrival into the town of Nosara, but even there it’s pretty much a very undeveloped kind of visual that you might find in the middle of somewhere else. Well, at least the transport, arranged through the hotel was in a new car with excellent AC and a very nice driver! Upon passing the entry gate of the Harmony, it still doesn’t look like that low key, architecturally organic but very upscale kind of experience you are anticipating. Give yourself an hour or so after arrival, and you will be part of this magnificent property and landscape, leaving for home fulfilled and happy, even if you have the same bumps on the dirt road back to the airport!
