When my parents got together back in the day, it was still illegal for interracial couples to marry in multiple states in the union. If my folks lived in a different state and obeyed its racist laws, I might never have been born. This is one reason I'm irrevocably in favor of marriage equality today. And it's why I'm so excited about "The Loving Story," a documentary about Mildred and Richard Loving, the couple who fought Virginia's racist anti-miscegnation law all the way to the Supreme Court.

"The Loving Story" airs tonight on HBO.

Happy Valentine's Day!
