You either love it or you hate it for what it is, and I LOVE Venice Beach. Coming from Miami, it is definitely the culture shock I think anyone visiting L.A. should experience. I've been multiple times and have always enjoyed the visit. Best time is definitely in the afternoon, which inconveniently is also the worst time to find parking. Keep at it though. Once you do, a short walk over to the main stretch and you can walk and take in the various street performers, the different vendors, and many of the shops that line up the stretch. Sure, there are tons of bums, and many of the performers may harass you for money if you take in their act without donating, but this part of Venice is definitely just walking along and taking in the different types of people. You'll also find Muscle Beach, pick-up basketball games, and skaters. There are actually even some good shops. As for the beach, its wonderful and I definitely suggest taking a dip and setting up camp near the water.

This place is more like a tourist trap than an actual beach you would go to for lounging and relaxing. There's always too many people on the boardwalk. Lots of vendors selling interesting but probably useless things. There are also performers every so often down the stretch of the boardwalk. It's a fun place to people-watch. There's a skate park which I imagine is a great place to skate as it's right on the beach. The beach itself always looks dirty. Parking is challenging unless you want to pay big bucks for it or walk a couple blocks.

Do NOT go early in the day. We stopped by around 10am and there was nothing going on except a lot of homeless activity. My wife would not have felt safe without me there. When I have been later in the day, its great fun with lots of activity. A bit touristy, but thats ok. Not many good places to eat, but some interesting street food.

Venice Beach has a lot of bums. Aside from that, if you're walking on the strand you are going enjoy it. There are lots of street performers and people selling stuff here. Parking is a B**CH but if you can find free street parking you're set. There are a few delicious places to eat here, and Abbott Kinney is a short distance from here.

This is the second point we choose to visit after Santa Monica beach in the L.A. coast. It was really nice. There are plenty of people and shops all over, people practising sports, skating in an awesome skate park, cycling... Near from here you have the attraction that name the area, the little Venice imitation that finally wasn't that great... But deserves a visit.

worth seeing the strange eclectic culture...not really family friendly especially near or after sunset...breeze can be very chilly there.

I love going there on week ends. You ll always find something to do or to see... lot of performers, i love spending my time sitting at the terrace of bars and restaurants and look at all the diferent things, persons going crazy. It s a melting pot so amazing. Feel like holidays each time.

Not the safest at nihgt, a lot of homeless people live there, but awseome for arts, and activities. You can do everything from get your medical marijuana card, see a freak museum to play basketball. Lots of shops and a few resturaunts and coffe places. Great during the day. Lots of people. Muscle beach is there (outside gym). and I think there might be a small outdoor skate park.
