Why are powerfully thrown shots thrown with a closed hand upon release? Is the disc basically falling out of the hand?
If you were to view a throw of a pro from an above view you would see that the disc travels on a strait line from when they reach back to when they release. The quick change in direction at the end of the strait line at the release forces the disc loose. This puts spin on the disc and is what they call "snap"
