It is my understanding that Stephen Woodworth, majority Member of Parliament for a riding not far from where I'm typing this, is trained in and has practiced law. If this is true, what is the purpose of introducing the flawed motion M-312? If it passes without substantial changes (private member's motions often don't but the CPC is growing more open about their means of governing), it will take months or years for the courts to restore constitutional rights to women as the law will be challenged.

Further food for thought: http://www.halifaxlive.com/content/view/690/32/ and the famous PMSH line "You won't recognize Canada when I get through with it".

given that iran has occupied a seat on the united nations human rights committee it is not such a great leap to find stephen woodworth doing so within the region. he is an active proponent of what might be called catholic shari'ah, as exemplified by m-312

I've never particularly noticed how expensive the vehicles that cut me off at pedestrian crosswalks appear to be, though I have tended to correlate "better off" with "less considerate of others" for most of my life.

I look forward to follow-on studies examining the effects of awareness on unethical behaviour, attitudes, and tendencies.

I notice around here that whenever gas prices jump radically, the Hummers drive around enraged.

When I start a search on Google's site for SPYW, Google helpfully fills in the suggestions "spyware", "spyware doctor", "spyware removal", and "spywareblaster". Could it be the guy who selected the name Search Plus Your World is trying to tell us something?

Diane Duane originally shared:

Whoopee, our bank account has been cleaned out...*

So I was expecting a payment into the joint account that Peter and I share, and logged into online banking to see if it had come in yet. And saw:

Available balance: 0.00

Uhh… No, not really possible. Something a little over 0.00, something a little under 0.00, sure. But this? No. Possibly a system hiccup of some kind. So I call the helpline and ask what’s going on.

And surprise! What do they find, but, between Tuesday and today, a number of transactions that aren’t mine. Road toll payments (when we don’t have a car: amusing). Movie tickets from a Dublin-area omniplex (when we haven’t left the house since last Friday: I’m still fighting with this sinus infection and haven’t been out a lot.) And then a transaction at a point-of-sale somewhere in Ireland that emptied out the account. (There wasn’t a vast amount in there right then… but it’s all gone now.)

W. T. F. My bank card has been skimmed.

It’s toast now (thrown in the fire a few minutes ago, a new one ordered over the phone). But so much for the bills that needed to be paid this week. 2012 had better start getting its act together, as this is not an auspicious beginning.

The bank will cover this expense when its fraud department has digested all the details. But meanwhile, the household is skint. So: if you feel inclined to spit in the eye of the nameless rogue(s) who’ve briefly ruined the domestic tranquility around here, I invite you you to go over to the Ebooks Direct store and buy something using the discount code DDGOTSKIMMED, which will give you 20% off whatever you buy.

If you feel inclined to share this around, it’d be appreciated.

(mutter) Miscreants.

(oh, sorry, forgot the URL for the store. (You can judge my mental state from that, I bet...)

Video is on the Royal Channel at The Christmas Broadcast 2011, text at the link below. I did not take away as much from Her Majesty's message this year as a remember in previous years, but I have been less of the world than in it of late.

"December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women in Canada. Established in 1991 by the Parliament of Canada, this day marks the anniversary of the murders in 1989 of 14 young women at l'École Polytechnique de Montréal. They died because they were women.
As well as commemorating the 14 young women whose lives ended in an act of gender-based violence that shocked the nation, December 6 represents an opportunity for Canadians to reflect on the phenomenon of violence against women in our society. It is also an opportunity to consider the women and girls for whom violence is a daily reality, and to remember those who have died as a result of gender-based violence. And finally, it is a day on which communities can consider concrete actions to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls."

It's 23 years later. Murders, violence, and other "negative outcomes" based on the perpetrator's perception of rightful privilege denied continue.

Intersectionality makes me an oppressor as well as one of the oppressed.

I have, in the not immediate past, been raped (sexually assaulted if you prefer a less visceral term). I hope to not be raped in the future.
I know I am a member of more than one demographic that statistically increases my likelihood of being made a target for this particular crime of dominance and violence.

Outrage fatigue got you down? Tired of looking at pictures of cats to unwind?

Watch Respected Comrade Kim Jong-un, who is identical to Supreme Commander Kim Jong-il and a great person born of heaven, carry on the tradition of Dear Leader looking at things.

Encouraging people to not commit a crime (and not befriend those who do) can reduce the rate of that crime. It might even be more effective than victim bla-- education.

This Eddie Cantor song (complete with non-slave discovered in the harem room antics) was in my head this morning. From the 1933 film Roman Scandals, though by the music (and the much shorter Annie Lennox cover) I'd have placed it in the late 1920s.

I've been fairly removed from pop music this year, so was not surprised that I recognized few of the hit songs DJ Earworm used to create the 2011 mashup.

Introduction
I treat G+ more like Twitter than like Facebook in terms of connections: if I add you to a circle, I want to read what you're willing to publish to me and/or I want to make one or more categories of my own posts easily available to you.  Circle != Friend/Creep.

Who is That Dawn Person?
Wrangler of sysadmins at the University of Waterloo, former t.b oldbie, partner to Sean M Puckett, intermittent loudmouthed schnook. Passionate about civility, sustainable urban development, management, feminism and its intersections with various privileges/oppressions, the arts, education, mental health issues, and some aspects of technology. Would like to find more opportunities for classical vocal performance in town.

2 KW Kiwanis music festival scholarships in the past 8 years. Continuing to advance career in IT (rare for my demographic).
