Shocking carrot statistics in this (short) post!! Seriously. You'll be shocked.
You can harvest 2 pounds of carrots per square feet. Save a lot of money by growing homegrown carrots and freezing them yourself.

I just found you on the mother earth news, and I am old school, so I don't know if I am doing this correctly. A couple of years ago, I lost my home in the lakes region of N.H., but gardening was my only solace. I now live in a box with boxes all around me. I was landscaping, and gardening at my friend's house that has so much potential to be sustainable, but they just threw there trash and old cars in their 3-4 acres. I was putting in so much time and money to have wild and organic annuals, perennials, and it was a bust. The reason I am contacting you is the soil is like a brick around here and I do have a shared garden, but they don't allow compost piles, so I buy it, but every year it seems to get harder than the year before. I grew up near Boston and we had a garden for as long as I can remember, but the soil was so friable "sp?" either at the outset or after a few years of working in everything compostable. My friend told me to get liquid gypsum, but can't find it. I think that as a kid, my mom would come to this area to get clay for her pottery. I made a raised bed, but nothing works. I'm moving in 2-3 years, but I have to grow or I'll lose my mind! any ideas? I also love that you don't waste anything, but I had food poisoning as a kid, so there are some things, I just gotta throw away, but I feel like I just went to a funeral. My father would eat anything, and he was never sick. My dog is eating his vomit right now, so I better go and assure him that we can afford enough food for him! Going Crazy in NH. Sincerely, Karen P
