Welcome to Fahad Al-Rajaan's Google Plus page. Follow this page to read recent stories on Kuwait.

Kuwait was founded in 1613, in its capital, Kuwait City. Kuwait primarily functioned as a fishing village until the area was settled by the Bani Utub in 1716.

The Bani Utub is a federation of Arab tribes which originated in the Saudi Arabian region of Najd. The federation was formed when groups of clans migrated to the Persian Gulf in the early 16th Century. The current Kuwaiti monarchy's origins have been traced back to the Bani Utub.

During the 18th Century, Kuwait became very prosperous very quickly as the principal commercial centre for the transit of goods between Arabia, Baghdad, India and Muscat.  During the Persian siege of Basra in the late 1700s, Iraq's merchants took refuge in Kuwait and became instrumental in Kuwait's trading activities and boat building programme. Kuwait's maritime industry boomed. Today, the Kuwaiti dinar is the world's highest-valued currency.
