The Kennedy Rail Trail near Goldens Bridge, NY, built on the New York Central's Lake Mahopac branch. It's a fairly rustic rail trail, with some eroded sections near a bridge that obviously got blocked at some point so the creek flowed over the railbed. But the bridge has a nice deck on it, and they keep the brush back, so somebody is caring for it. It goes underneath a nice high road bridge. And there are still some of the iconic NYC concrete fence posts, still with wire on them.

- Interesting. When were the rails ripped out and the trail setup? There is indeed a Goldens Bridge NY stop on the Harlem Division as you're aware of as I am. (I have family who lives between that one and one other.)Sep 8, 2013
- Emily says the last passenger train was 1959 and the tracks were removed shortly thereafter: http://www.iridetheharlemline.com/2010/02/10/snow-over-railroad-bridge-l-158/Sep 8, 2013
- Okay. Interesting. I wonder what the rail line was used for? Oh and a big thing for discussion on the site you've cited is what will happen to the trail. DEP owns the land around the bridge so they are probably maintaining it.... But then there's a big problem..... Good site by the way, thank you.Sep 8, 2013
