Icom hired a floor of the convention hall outside Akihabara Station in Tokyo to showcase the new IC-7300 and IC-7851 and promote their D-STAR line. There were plenty of opportunities to play with the radios and attend presentations from Icom staff.

Are there any handhelds or mobile radios for 1290MHz FM? Alinco seemed to be the last Japanese manufacturer, and even it has let 23cm rigs pass into history.

The Turris Omnia looks like it will be a fun platform to play with. A dual core ARM-based router with lots of flash and RAM, and the option of mSATA. It even has an SFP connector, so maybe I could get rid of the separate fiber box as well.  The website claims a crowdfunding campaign is planned for the end of the year.

I have started on my annual photo album of the Ham Fair in Tokyo. Attendance seems to be noticeably up this year (perhaps helped in part by the discounted ticket fee for JARL members, celebrating their 90th anniversary).

Lots of new equipment. The Yaesu FT-991 in particular looks very slick, and its touch screen interface is quite intuitive.

It typically takes a few days to sort through all the photos and chats I have across the weekend.
