Happy International Yoga Day! June 21 is the first day of the summer solstice and time to celebrate your yoga practice amid the balance of 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness today.

Wait? You’re not so sure about yoga? Did you try it and feel let down or confused?

You’re not alone.

When I first stepped into a yoga class, I was expecting a high-intensity workout, not soothing music and purpose-filled stillness. I added yoga to my week to initially round out my schedule of high-intensity circuit training, a cardio sculpt class and lap swimming.

Wow, was I surprised. Then, as you know, I fell in love with everything about yoga.

So, today’s post is for the skeptics. If you’re curious about yoga, or had an unfavorable first experience, please read on in this guest post from a fellow yogi writer. I love her insight. I think she’ll change your mind and entice you to get on your mat once again.

Last week I attended +Skyword’s #Forward18 content marketing conference in Boston. The day was filled with trend predictions, actionable advice and case studies to fill marketers and creatives alike with endless inspiration and refreshing ideas.

It was incredible.

I thought about writing about the tips and tricks I picked up, but my friend Erin did such a great job recapping key ideas presented at the conference for the Content Standard, so I’ve decided to instead focus on my personal takeaways as a full-time freelance writer.

So, I’m being more mindful of the way I care for my face. Here are my top tips to soothe and hydrate this tender skin, whether you have rosacea like me, or just want to pamper yourself!

Every industry has superstars. When it comes to online ad revenue, Facebook and Google are on the red carpet. The digital marketing world often refers to the two as a "digital duopoly" due to their massive success over other social platforms, and the title is warranted.

Happy Saturday to you! A new post about mindfulness is up on the blog this morning.

Slowing down and being in the moment has been a huge topic for me this spring, both on this blog and in my client work. It’s at the core of my three-part series on self-love for Tom’s of Maine, the focus of a feature for Hello Humankindness, the topic for a post on Medium and pops up here on Cupcakes And Yoga Pants often.

Why? So many of us run on autopilot and move through our days without truly absorbing the small moments and subtle things in front of us. Do you often wonder how you missed what someone said, overlooked something in your field of view or wonder where the time went?

It happens to us all. We simply need to be more intentional.

Today I’m sharing an article that highlights the wise insight from psychologist Kristine Klussman who focuses on empowerment and positivity, not labels and diagnoses. Enjoy!

Today, my lifestyle blog serves as a creative outlet for things I want to personally explore or share with others to help them make healthier decisions in their lives. It’s also a revenue stream in my diversified writing business. In addition to direct affiliate income, I’m indirectly generating income from new marketing clients who chose to work with me in part based on the public body of work that’s out there for them to peruse.

In 2010, a blood test indicated I had celiac disease. I was never told about, or offered, a follow-up endoscopy to confirm the results or determine the severity of my condition at that initial appointment.

Instead, I followed doctor’s orders and started a strict gluten-free diet to manage the autoimmune disease. Overall, I feel much better since adhering to the dietary changes and decided I didn’t really need an endoscopy (which I learned about later) to double confirm my celiac disease diagnosis. My main concerns now are cross-contamination and mislabeling of food products at stores and restaurants.

Fast forward eight years and new digestive concerns landed me at the gastroenterologist’s office. To help diagnose my new issue (which turns out to be mild gastroparesis), my doctor explained that we should do an endoscopy of my esophagus, stomach and the upper part of my small intestines to be sure my celiac disease was well-managed and not causing my new issues. Gluten can hide in so many places and even the most careful person could accidentally be exposed.

If my celiac was not under control, she’d be able to see the extent of the damage in my digestive tract, including my stomach and upper intestines.
